less than a year
Failed in under a year. Got an error code. No reply when inquiring what the error is. When powered up the compressor doesn't even attempt to run. Don't know what is wrong, normal diagnstics show normal hookup but there is a mystery error code.

Works Great, Works Even Better With Mods
This is the smallest air conditioner that I have ever seen and works great especially if you like to experiment. The manual was very detailed and explains what all of the controls do and various technical details I found helpful. When I first got mine, I put a probe in the output and it was outputting about 53-52 degree air in a 75 degree room. Over the last year I have added various mods to it that have gotten it even colder. There are two white wires that are tied together that control the compressor on or off, this will let you add a remote or thermostat so you can have the compressor on or leave it in fan only mode. I use a remote unit with 2 relays so I can turn the fans on/off and the compressor on/off I added voltage controllers to slow down the blower fan and speed up the exhaust fans. I run the exhaust fans on the condenser at 12.5 volts to get more heat out of the system and I turned the blower motor down to 10 volts while leaving the rest of the system including the compressor at 12 volts. I also turned the little blue potentiometer to speed up the compressor to the maximum speed I can hear the compressor running healthy at. I backed it off once the compressor started sounding like it was being overworked. R-134A refrigerant, which is what this air conditioner uses and is the same stuff as in your car A/C, gets colder the faster you run the compressor. It runs a little warm at first but once it removes the humidity from the air, it starts getting really cold. With the mods, mine starts at around 47 degrees and drops to 44 after it removes the humidity from the air in 71-75 degree air. I can run this thing for hours and it puts out cold air while dehumidifying the air too! Make sure your 12 volt power supply can handle at least 15 amps, I ran it on a 10 amp adapter at first and the starting current for the compressor would trip it until it got running. I also recommend putting a filter over the air intake for the evaporator, I am using a filter designed for a computer fan just resting on it. I also added a hose to drain the condensate from the pan into a bottle so I don't get water everywhere, a 1/4" ID hose will fit on the nozzle. I am not sure how well this will cool a room but it works extremely well as a spot cooler to blow on you or cool a tiny space. The air coming out of it is very cold and the blower still blows strong even down at 10 volts. I love this thing and its fun to experiment with! I bought this in July 2021 and as of April 2022, it is still running great and hasn't lost its charge. It comes pre-charged from the factory and I did not need to do anything to charge it.

It does work
I bought this little unit for the V-berth of our sailboat. While we do have central A/C unless you want to run the generator it’s not much use at anchor. I wanted something my battery bank and solar/wind power could push. The installation was straight forward (just connect power and ducts), I bought wiring, ducts, and vent covers separate. It does knock the temp down a few degrees so we can sleep a little better. I did hang a heavy curtain to keep the air just in the sleeping area. You will not freeze yourself out but it will bring a little comfort to you. I will be moving this from the closet area to under the sole for better ventilation for the unit. I’m sure it will perform even better then. I’m very happy with our purchase. Sailing Lonicera ⛵️

(UPDATED) I bought directly from Rigid HVAC, same price here
I bought this directly from Rigid HVAC in China -- but the $180 shipping cost made it exactly the same price as here. It does not include a Thermostat -- but really -- you'll likely want to run it at full-blast all the time anyway because it can only cool to a "comfortable" temperature -- maybe in the 60's -- if recirculating the air. That means you just attach the battery leads (and a switch) -- and the darn thing works.I think it's a genius product -- perfect for my application.UPDATE (7/1/20) -- I just bought my 2nd one here on Amazon Prime. No 10 day wait period! I ordered on a Saturday -- and got it on the next Monday -- 2 days! I still find nothing else like this anywhere (in the world). It is best for "spot-cooling" a work space or work-piece -- and it works well out in the field with any 12 volt battery. All my workmates want one (actually they want to borrow mine!)

This is a Rigid HVAC product
The seller listed is not the manufacturer of this product. It was made by Rigid HVAC. Do not purchase from this manufacturer. They make piss poor, untested products that are not effective if they do “perform.” Their customer support initially is fantastic, but if you have a defective product as I’m sure most are you cannot CANNOT get your money back. Do not trust Amazon to give you any buyer protections when dealing with this manufacturer. Purchased directly from Rigid HVAC (like the reviewer before me) and have been trying to get my money back since April. I’m stuck with a $1000+ paperweight with the same engineering capabilities of a fan. You’re buying a glorified fan.
