A visual guide to how the world really works, through stunning infographics and data visualisations, thoroughly revised, recalculated and reimagined for this new edition. We are overwhelmed by information โ from our phones, our televisions, our computers, our newspapers. This new edition of Information is Beautiful has been revised throughout with over 20 updates and 20 new visualisations. It offers shelter from the flood by visualising data in a new way that blends facts with their connections, their context and their relationships โ making information meaningful, entertaining and beautiful. This is information like you have never seen it before โ easy to flick through but also engaging enough to study โ information that comes to life in your hands and your eyes. Review: Beautiful and eclectic book about data visualization - If you like non-fictional books that are interesting and eye-opening, then this is the book for you! Information is Beautiful is simply a beautiful book. I loved how every page is extremely visually appealing. That is definitely a reason to read the book on its own. I really enjoy books that reveal the depth and complexity of the world we are living inโsomething that is so easy to miss when all our screens seem to promise an abundance of simplistic solutions to boredom. This book just does that! It brings together a great many disparate topics, and that opens the door to a room for the light of curiosity to explore. I was a bit concerned about one of the displays called โBehind Every Great Man โฆ Dictatorsโ Wivesโ. The display focused on the wives of the horrible dictators of the twentieth century, like Hitler, Stalin, Marcos, and so on. Honestly, I was disturbed by the title for the display, because these men were all terrible people. They themselves may have thought of themselves as great, but today historians would most likely not use that word, even in quotes. But overall, I liked reading Information is Beautiful, and I appreciated the authorโs goal to make information approachable and beautiful. [Excerpted from Marshmallow's review of the book; see the book bunnies blog for the complete review.] Review: Most fun with any book in a long, long time! - Got this in my Reading Room. Great, great book. Full of fun, thought-provoking graphics. Some of my favorites: p.100 - Moral Matrix - I choose to be "Modern - New Age" p.242 - Making a Book - This seems _very_ similar to my company's software development programs p.156 - Types of Coffee - Why can't Starbucks make me a Granita con Panna ? p.151 - Body By - HaHaHa!! p.134 - Dangers of Death - I'm still trying to map this onto my activities list _Buy_This_Book_

Great, interesting book.
Amazing and very informational book. Filled with high quality diagrams and images and beautiful drawings. Would recommend for adults and older children though as there is some adult content. Great book for someone who is curious and fascinated with the living world around them.

Let the dataset change your mindset.
This book offers a simplicity to a complex world. Each page is worthy of some rumination and offers almost a daily meditation on my own perspectives and prejudice. I have used some displays as warm-ups in my Stats class to offer a place for discussion or as an example of a different way to display information. Unfortunately the medium of the print makes some displays too small to read or incomplete where the binding joins the pages. However, overall worth the purchase.

BUY THIS INSTEAD OF "Visual Miscellaneum"
This is a great book for those who want to attain a general idea on data visualization. For those of you who are skeptical between this book and the Visual Miscellaneum I would definitely suggest you to buy this one. It almost covers all the Visual Miscellaneum drawings and also has a lot more pictures.

Nice visual design, but not great information visualization
Pretty imagery that works fairly well as visual design, however they don't work that well as data/information visualizations.

Interesting and beautiful
Great book on infographics; artistic, interesting, full of flash facts, pleasant lecture. Great especially if you're not a "number person".

The book that launched a thousand infographics reminds you how good they can be
Apparently there were numerous errors in earlier versions of this book, but this review is for the 2012 edition which would appear to have corrected the omissions and errors of earlier editions. The most serious fault that I can level at McCandless's "Information is Beautiful" is that is has almost single handedly given rise to the infographic obsession that means that you can hardly go online without encountering some designer's view of information that is all style and little substance. However, returning to McCandless's book shows how, when done with thought and insight, the graphic can add to the reader's understanding of the data. The book is one part modern art, one part geek-porn and several parts graphic design. It's not only interesting, but is indeed as beautiful as the title promises it to be. When the book was first published, in 2009, many of the designs were seldom used - not most of them will be familiar and that threatens to minimise the importance of the book in the history of infographic design. Rather like HDR photography, a badly thought out infographic is dull and a bit cliche now, but when done properly, they really do get the message over. A picture is said to paint a thousand words, but a well-designed infographic can get over more than that. And this is full of them. McCandless is good at sourcing the data. One slight concern though is that there is a fair bit that is sourced from Wikipedia - which is seldom the most reliable of sources on anything. With that caveat, this book is a modern design classic. It's beautiful, interesting, clever and thoughtful.

Spannend
Was ein tolles Buch! 1A.
