The AutoCloser-GA Government is recommended for use with garage door openers that meet the latest safety requirements (ie those with automatic reversing mechanisms and electronic photo eye sensors that detect obstacles). As advertised, it works.
I have no idea what I'm doing but I installed this gadget on my garage door opener and it works.I have a bunch of mismatched stuff that my brother put in years ago, really, really obsolete stuff but still very reliable.I stuck the box to the bottom of my opener motor, put the reflector on the door, ran the wires and connected the button.Boom! It works. I'm not real crazy about the beeping though. I just want it to close without ceremony. I'm going to end up wrapping dense foam rubber around it to muffle the noise. I don't care for the warning up and down stuff either. Just close please! I have a numeric keypad outside so if it closes on me I can get back in.The warning beeps and the warning up/down thing are minor annoyances that I can easily live with because I am ultra paranoid about leaving my door open. I've done it before and it freaks me out. About a month ago I came home from the grocery store late and forgot to close the door. It was wide open all night, anyone could have stolen anything the wanted and even worse, could have strolled right into my house too! I didn't discover the door open until like 3am.Never again! I tested it a few times, I set it to a 2 minute close time and it works. I couldn't be happier and I feel much safer now!And my friends are happy because I drive them crazy asking them to turn around and go back to my house to check my door after they pick me up.I'm tickled with this thing! Just get one, you won't regret it!edit: Just a little follow up note.I really dig this thing sooooo much! It gives me peace of mind because I am forgetful and ultra paranoid about leaving my door open. But, the beeping is very annoying, it even continues to beep after the door is closed, for like 20-30 seconds. Really? There's no need for that..There needs to be an option to just disable the beeper completely. I do not need it. The up and down warning is unneeded too. It would be nice to have the option to disable that as well.THEN, this would be the perfect gadget! I still stand by the five stars I give it despite the minor annoyances because this thing works as advertised and gives me peace of mind. Also that is knows if the door is open or closed is a good thing, I was looking at a different brand that can't know and it sometimes OPENS your door rather than close it!Another point that is important to be aware of, if your door is partially open, it will not auto-close it. When it's cool weather I like to raise my garage door 1/5 open, open the garage->kitchen door and then my patio door at the back of the house so the North wind can rip through the house. When I did this the closer did not detect the door being partially open and did not try to close it. For me, this was excellent, I was wondering how it would handle that. But I can imagine there could potentially be a problem there for some people if their door somehow opens part way and then won't auto-close. Also It would be nice if there were an eye that could tell if it's dark out and if the door is not fully closed, it would auto-close. I don't know how to do that but I'm sure some smart person could figure it out. Sometimes I partially open the door and forget to close it.Anyway, $48 is a small price to pay to avert a much larger potential disaster. I highly recommend this product..

Revising my review now after months of attempting to use it. I had so many issues and failures, and the incessant beeping was so annoying I uninstalled it.I subsequently bought the Magic CloserMagic Closerit was installed in minutes and has been foolproof and reliable for going on three months. Cheaper and better.I have had this for a while and finally got around to installing. It was very easy, took about 15 minutes, and seems as if it will work fine.It has for testing at least. And I'll feel better having it as a failsafe. We try to be vigilant about closing the garage, but have forgotten twice and had thieves enter and rifle through our belongings. It is a good device, and while I do understand the loud beeping and the half-close + full close, I do not get the full close, re-open, delay, then closing again operation? Once it is down and closed, why not stay there? That is how it works by design: after the set delay of being open:unit begins beeping for 30 secondspartially closes and comes back to full openfully closes a few seconds laterbut then it immediately fully opens again!it beeps for another 20 or 30 seconds while fully re-openedit then finally closes and stays closedand, of course, it beeps the whole time, *AND* for thirty seconds after it is fully closed for good measure.I am sure there is a government regulation requiring this level of ridiculousness, but seriously, why fully close the door only to fully re-open and re-close AGAIN?Is this in case you accidentally trap a thief inside and you are required to let them escape, because you created an attractive nuisance and they just had to burgle you, and you are violating their rights as victims in commission of a crime by closing the door on them? I am guessing such a lawsuit probably led to this weird close/re-open/close operation. But even given all that strangeness, and what seems like a very unnecessary step in the operation, it does seem like a good product and seems to do what it says it will.
