Would recommend...but with some caution
The torch worked great and was a fantastic addition to the Lady Liberty costume for my Salute to America concert. However, the torch was delivered cracked at the base of the torch (on the green part which meets with the torch itself)Due to my concert being so close to when the item was delivered, I didn't have time to complain or exchange and used as is. As I said, the product worked great, uses 2 C batteries, and you will need a small Phillips head screwdriver to unscrew the TINY screw holding the batteries...and I mean TINY!!! Be careful as this product is made of flimsy thin plastic/fake metal and can easily crack as it did during transit or was that way when it was shipped....not sure. Otherwise, I am very happy with the product working and lighting up the room!

Takes a beating and keeps on shining
This arrived in a huge box with lots of paper stuffing, so I think the company has really heard the complaints about it arriving damaged to some people. Mine wasn't damaged at all - worked perfectly - and survived a round-trip to NYC in my suitcase. More importantly, it survived the enthusiastic waving and banging it got at the hands of my 2 year old niece. It did develop a crack from her mistreatment, but still survived in my suitcase for our return and is still working great. It looks awesome - you can't make something this good yourself - if you want a nice torch for your costume - this is it.

LIGHT DOESN'T TURN ON
Really pretty torch.....IF IT WORKED. I bought this for my 3 year old who is thrilled to be the "statue of litabree' this year. I disagree with the other reviewers who say it's fragile and cheap....The plastic is fine on mine, and the three pieces (handle, light, and flame) screw together nicely. I spray-painted mine with a little sparkle....per my daughters request, and it is perfect.....it turned out beautiful. We are going to a Halloween Party tonight, and I knew it would blow her mind to have it actually light up. So I went to the store and bought $4 batteries....only to find that the torch doesn't work at all. No matter how I position the batteries, or fiddle with the light/switch....it WILL NOT turn on. SUCH A BUMMER! I bought this torch specifically for the 'light up' feature, and it doesn't even work. And it's too late to get another one because our party is tonight.

Beware of putting batteries in this!
This looks fine and does the job if you don't need it to light up.If you do, prepare for a roller coaster ride. I put the batteries in and it didn't light up. The batteries shook around somewhat loosely on the inside, so I screwed the top piece on several times to see if I could get them to make contact correctly. When I finally got them seated, it lit up but the glow wasn't very bright (it did not show indoors). About 15 minutes into carrying it around, it got VERY hot at the bottom end. I stopped and removed the batteries and the bottom battery was so hot it burned my hand.Since the glow wasn't bright, I just left the batteries out for the remainder of the event. Will likely wear this costume again but I won't risk putting batteries in this torch again. Maybe I just got one with bad connections? Not really sure but not willing to buy another to test that theory.

Cute Torch
I picked this torch because it looked better than other options. I used the 2 C batteries it required and it lit up but wasn't very bright. Unfortunately, it fell to the ground and shattered in lots of little pieces. Luckily that didn't happen until AFTER the party. I would order it again. Just make sure it doesn't fall or get a hard bump.

Perfect Costume Accessory!
Don't bother with other torches, this is the one you want. It looks smallish in this picture, but don't be fooled. If you're going for scale this might be slightly smaller, but everyone will know exactly what it is you've got and the bonus that it lights up will delight everyone--especially yourself. It looks really good!Mine came with a little screw in the part of the flashlight where you unscrew it to put in the batteries. Very odd place for a screw... Anyways, examine yours so you don't waste time with manhandling the flame and possibly break it. Take the screw out and suddenly how it opens will make sense. I don't know if they all come with screws, just sharing my experience. The light isn't too bright to be obnoxious at a party either, more like a soft glow. You can still see that it's lit up during the day though. Great accessory, don't bother with any others.

More dim than a birthday candle.
If you don't care that it's hunter green. . . if you don't want a flashlight brighter than a birthday candle . . . then you won't mind this Liberty Torch.I did a ton of searching and couldn't find anything else that had the flame shape that lit up so I gave it a try. Super disappointing. Her costume was the color of copper patina but this light is a dark green. Almost like a dark pine. It's the right idea but very poorly executed. I would think they could put an LED bulb in the head and get a brighter light.Ended up returning this and going with the soft version we found that matched better, even though it didn't light up.

THE COOLEST COSTUME PIECE EVER
The was one of the best purchases I have made in a while. You have to supply your own batteries but it is worth it. The quality was great. You can unscrew the flames and it makes a flashlight. No complaints!
