It's magic in a new dimension. Review: An excellent sequel to a great classic film! - The original Tron movie is one of my all-time most favorite movies ever. I saw the original Tron movie on the big screen back in 1982 and I was really wowed by it. Here was a movie about a young computer programmer and video game designer named Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) who gets trapped inside of a computer world and must survive against his very own creations. How cool is that for a movie storyline? Plus, I could really relate to this movie because back in those days I used to go to the video game arcade all of the time. In fact, in the same shopping center where I first saw Tron, there was also a video game parlor located there named Time Zone Arcade where I spent a lot of Friday evenings playing the newest video games before going to see the latest movies. Even now, 28 years later at the theater where I watched Tron:Legacy this last December, I played Ms. Pac Man, and Galaga in the theaters game section just before seeing the movie. It was like Deja Vu. Anyway, I absolutely loved the new Tron: Legacy movie. It was everything that the first movie was and so much more. To think that some 28 odd years later after the release of the first Tron and here I was seeing a big-budget sequel on the big screen featuring the return of two of its original stars, Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner and, well...Wow, I practically had to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming. I never would have thought that there would ever be a sequel made to this movie in my wildest dreams. During its theater run I managed to see Tron: Legacy 4 times, twice in 3D, and twice the regular version, and I would have seen it at least a couple more times if I could have. This movie is awesome and really entertains you. It is films such as this one that I go to movie theaters for in the first place, to see big, epic, larger-than-life action adventure movies loaded with wild and interesting characters, great action sequences, spectacular special effects, and lots of fun, and this movie delivered all of that and more in Spades. The only negative that I can give the film is that I did not think the 3D looked all that impressive. Of course I only saw this movie in a regular theater, I did not see it in IMAX, which I have heard the 3D looked much better in IMAX. But I digress, this review is not about the 3D Blu-Ray DVD, only the standard Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack of which I own. EDIT: As of 12-17-2011 I am now the proud owner of the 3D Blu ray version of the film and let me tell you, it looks absolutely stunning! I really was surprised at how so much better the 3D in this movie looks at home. If you are considering obtaining the 3D version of this film, do not hesitate. It looks very impressive. But, besides all of that, this movie still rocks whether viewed in 3D or not. All I can say is if you enjoy big epic Sci Fi action adventure movies as much as I do then you should definitely see this film. Trust me, they do not get much bigger or more epic than this. Review: Excellent Movie - Well Made In All Regards - This movie is very well made. Perfect casting, excellent visuals, amazing score, great story. It's simply a well made movie, and the effort from everyone involved shows. Jeff Bridges makes this movie stand out with his performance(s). Garrett Hedlund did an outstanding job, especially with how demanding the role was mentally and physically. Olivia Wilde was cast perfectly in playing the naive, yet intelligent and capable character Quorra. The visuals are amazing, and they stand on their own. I'm someone who's easily put off by excessive CGI in movies (Indiana Jones 4 was terrible, the CGI brought it down even further), but Tron: Legacy is a movie where CGI actually helps make the movie, as it takes place in a digital world (Star Wars Episodes I - III however does not take place in a digital world, hence it looked bad, and the technology used to film those movies wasn't as advanced as it is today, just as an example of where I'm coming from). The score was amazing. When I found out it was Daft Punk who scored the music, I was taken back after realizing who they were. I'm not a fan of their other work, but I do have respect for them after hearing their work for this movie. The music worked flawlessly with each scene, as it added to the emotional situation perfectly. The story was perfect. A touch of a Nazi Germany theme along with a father son story in the middle helped make this movie very much enjoyable. I went into watching this movie for the first time expecting an excessively high level of quirkiness and lameness (I was not familiar with the Tron series before seeing this). I also expected that those who made this movie might have approached it as a money making project where I'd only see a "cookie cutter" like movie (Example: The Pirates of the Caribbean movies) - I'm very glad I was wrong, and I'm also glad that I gave this movie a chance; a well deserved/earned chance. Finally - I'm accustomed to people making comments on reviews for DVDs/Blu-rays in stating that they only want a review of the product, the product being the format alone, not the actual film/story. In response to anyone who is tempted to make such a comment (I know you're out there), this IS a review of the product, as I bought the movie, I didn't just buy a blu-ray. But to make you happy, here's the reivew you're looking for - It looks really good on 3D Blu-ray... ...end of line.

Disney actually made a good sequel? YES!
Greetings, programs! I've been a long time fan of the original TRON. It's one of my favorite movies and has always captivated my imagination. I spent many an hour (and hours and hours) contemplating what I would do for a sequel myself. I never imagined this! No spoilers :) TRON: Legacy manages to bring back many of the same actors from the original, playing their original characters. That's always a good sign for a sequel. The story line was well-written and engaging and stayed true to the original in both spirit and technicality. TRON: Legacy is somewhat faster paced, which is to be expected for a movie made 30 years later. I was excited at how many connections were made, some overtly and others more subtly, to the first TRON. Unlike some other movies, TRON: Legacy managed to keep the references to its predecessor tasteful and entertaining. TRON: Legacy continues exploring the themes introduced in TRON, such as the spiritual/religious undertones and the philosophical questions raised by technology, and it does so in top form. The special effects were incredible, especially the CGI to give Jeff Bridges a fountain of youth - in only one scene was it painfully obvious that Jeff had some work done. The art and sound direction was pure genius, as each scene flowed with the music and the environments felt real without detracting from their digital nature. I'm not a fan of the new light cycle design, but aside from not liking the way it looks, they were very well designed and executed in the film. I also don't care much for the main character's helmet; and the new lighting on the outfits loses a little appeal with me when compared to the original - I liked the iridescent PCB look of the original. Writing: 8/10 - The story was well-written and imaginative. The writers stayed true to the original in nearly every respect without sacrificing anything of the new story they were writing. There are some very well written, clever lines, which are then expertly delivered. Not a lot will surprise you, but it will captivate you if you let it. Acting: 9/10 - Superb, with only a few, very few, minor discrepancies that caught my attention. Directing: 9/10 - Just shy of perfect, with a few lines and scenes that don't quite fit smoothly. They are there to connect a few things later, but they don't connect the way you expect them to. Cinematography: 8/10 - Better than average, by quite a bit, but nothing purely innovative or mind-catching. This could be seen as a boon, since there's also nothing distracting. Music: 10/10 - I don't give perfect scores lightly, but the choice of Daft Punk for the music was inspired, and the music they wrote was genius. Emotive and evocative with a strong, but not overwhelming, connection to each scene. The film was filmed and cut to the music, rather than the music being cut to the film, so it's synchronized in a way that is unusual and powerful in its effect. DVD Quality: Standard DVD quality with standard DVD features. No major flaws or concerns. Lacks certain extra features that were included only with the Blu-Ray edition. Blu-Ray Quality: Definitely HD and a good example of what HD is good for. No major flaws or concerns. Contains extra features - hints at a 3rd movie? We can only hope :D Price: Are you kidding me? Even if you hated the movie, it's still worth purchasing at this price. I have watched both movies, TRON and TRON: Legacy back to back several times. It's a short marathon that I don't tire of. Is the movie good? No, it's excellent. Did Disney actually make a sequel that is worth watching? It's unbelievable, but it's true. Is this DVD/Blu-Ray worth buying? Absolutely. End of line.

Amazing But Had More Potential
This is the sequel to the original film released in 1982. I must say this film has truly stepped up in terms of visuals. Tron Legacy is a stunning computer graphics adventure. Unfortunately, viewers will get the feeling that the film is missing something. The film's synopsis is rather disappointing and could have been better. The plot takes place after the original film. If you have not seen it, do not worry because the events that take place are not necessary to know what is going on. At the same time, it would have been better if the film had not try to stay close to the original. The plot is trying to explain what happened in a gap of nearly 20 years (between the first film and this one). As it attempts to explains, it weakens the plot. It is hard not to notice because the film tries so hard to explain the history of Tron while having various inconsistencies. On the other hand, the characters that bring livelihood into the original has returned. The concept of a going inside the world of computers is truly amazing and makes the film a fantastic adventure. The best part is the special effects. Since the setting of most of the film is inside a computer world, the special effects illustrate the vividness of the realm. Even though this world is only numbers, Disney wows people with the power of imagination and makes viewers wish they were there. The only disappointing thing is CGI Jeff Bridges. It can be easily seen throughout the film which is the real actor himself and a computer generated young version of himself. The computer graphics are amazing in HD. Unlike other films that rely heaving on CGI, this film's special effects is a core element in making it artwork. Another awesome element is the music. The soundtrack by Daft Punk makes the audience feel like they are in this world described in the film. Daft Punk did an excellent job of creating music that follows the mood of the films from action scenes to dramatic and sentimental moments. Like special effects, the music does an good job at bringing viewers into this world of computer programs. Overall, Tron Legacy will most definitely bring your imagination to life and make you want to wish you were a character in this film. On the other hand, Disney could have done better with the plot that was too afraid to leave the film's origins. It succeed in what the previous film could not, special effects, but sacrificed a potentially good plot to fabricate a history lesson that is not necessary of viewers to know.

TRON: Legacy--One of the best 2010 had to offer.
I was definitely expecting to be impressed by this movie, since I've always been naturally inclined toward all things sci-fi. I'd seen the trailer and thought it looked like it was worth seeing. I was excited, but I was nowhere near expecting to witness the glory that this film put forth. I went to see it in 3D with my two roommates, and even though they don't share my love of science fiction--all three of us were thoroughly blown away by this movie. I remember the response one of us had directly afterward, and that was just one simple phrase: "Wow. THAT was amazing." The special effects, the plot, the actors, and especially the soundtrack. I really am not kidding when I say that we were all in agreement when we decided that the other 3D movies we'd seen thus far paled in comparison to TRON. Yes, even James Cameron's Avatar. NOW THESE EFFECTS ARE TRULY SPECIAL Tron City in this film is even more visually stimulating than Pandora, even if it isn't bursting with color as much as the world of the Nav'i did. For me, the neon lights against a black sky and dark terrain looked much more stunning than the more natural-looking terrain of Pandora or even Wonderland (Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland). TRON is truly unique, with the light cycles and light jets that seem to erupt out of thin air, slow-motion derezzing, and gripping, edge-of-your-seat disc battles. And even though it is based on the 1982 film of the same name, its look does not borrow heavily from it. I FIGHT FOR THE USER! Sam Flynn, the son of creator Kevin Flynn, goes looking for his father years after he went missing--and finds him trapped in the digital world of his own creation. Together with a program named Quorra that his father had sort of adopted as his own daughter, they set out to stop C.L.U, a creation of Kevin's that has gone rogue and taken matters into his own hands. A fairly simple storyline, but I've got to hand it to Jeff Bridges. He does an excellent job of playing both the protagonist and the antagonist. I also appreciated many of the moral themes that were promoted throughout the movie, such as courage, selflessness, devotion, and family, among others. Another thing. I was really happy with how awesome and chock-full of action and suspense this film was, without the blood and the gore--but also without the fight sequences seeming cheesy or unrealistic (you know, the whole idea of people being thrown into things or hit with large objects but not really taking any damage). It really shows that a movie CAN be awesome without gory violence, sex, nudity/near nudity, or crude humor. DAFT PUNK Last but most definitely not least, is the soundtrack. The soundtrack for this movie, in my opinion, is the best I've heard for a while. It resonates perfectly with every epic moment and makes it ten times more epic. Usually, when I watch a movie, not much attention is devoted to the music. It's just sort of there, playing along in my subconscious mind. But this was different. This was a soundtrack that was actually noticed. Daft Punk is a major part of what made TRON: Legacy so spectacular. Their style of music is just so well suited to the movie, and of course, they did a fantastic job. THE BOTTOM LINE TRON is an excellent movie for people of all ages. Even the kids. Both visibly and audibly tantalizing, it is something that will be enjoyed by the entire family, I promise. I highly recommend seeing it in 3D. It'll probably be expensive, but it is beyond worth it. So please, do yourself and a favor and go see TRON: Legacy before it leaves the theaters for good, because I'm pretty sure this will be one of those movies for which the big screen actually makes a significant difference.

When You See 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos — It Means Business!
This review is strictly about the audio quality. The Dolby Atmos track on the Tron: Legacy 4K disc is one of the most dynamic and immersive mixes I’ve ever experienced. When you see “7.1.4 Dolby Atmos” printed on the box, it’s not just a marketing term, it’s a signal that this mix means business! The engineers went all-in on this one. The height channels are alive with movement and energy, giving an authentic sense of space and dimension. Overhead effects pan smoothly and naturally, making you feel like you’re inside the digital grid. The surround activity is constant and cohesive, drawing you completely into the movie’s soundscape. The LFE is exceptionally clean and powerful, digging deep without overwhelming the rest of the mix. Every pulse of Daft Punk’s score hits with clarity and precision. Dialogue remains razor-sharp through all the intensity, proof of a meticulous balance between aggression and control. This is a true reference-grade Atmos mix. Play it at 0.0 dB reference level or just above if your system can handle it, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning, fully three-dimensional audio experience that feels alive. If you want to know what Dolby Atmos was meant to sound like, play this disc. The “7.1.4 Dolby Atmos” label isn’t a gimmick here it’s a promise delivered in full.

A reboot
Pretty much a reboot of the original story with a bit of father/son angst thrown in. More than a passing plagiaristic nod to Star Wars too. An enjoyable outing, but if you've seen the original, this has little to offer in terms of plot

To make a long story short: Der Sohn von Kevin Flynn, Sam, findet einen Weg in den (das?)
