A super stylish journey: The ultimate sourcebook for the best airline graphic design Conceived by some of the world's top creative minds, such as Ivan Chermayeff, Otl Aicher, Massimo Vignelli, Academy Award winner Saul Bass, or advertising titan Mary Wells Lawrence, the designs found in the book's case studies also illustrate the shift from traditional methods of corporate design and advertising to comprehensive modern branding programs which took place in the same period. To reproduce all of the images as precisely as possible, a total of seventeen different colors, five different varnishes, and two different methods of foil printing and embossing were used. The result is a book of exceptional vivacity that pushes the limits of modern art printing technology. The Premium Edition has received glowing reviews in leading media around the world, including The New York Times, Newsweek, CNN, New Republic, Slate, Adweek, and dozens of others in the United States, France, Britain, Germany, China, Japan, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, Spain, Italy, Norway, and many other countries. Created by internationally recognized art book publisher Callisto and designed by distinguished Berlin-based designer Yvonne Quirmbach, the volume was produced in a renowned printing facility in northern Italy on deluxe 200g Fedrigoni paper. The Premium Edition is also available as a Collector's Edition, limited to 999 copies and presented in a grand clamshell case designed by Yvonne Quirmbach, with a metal cover similar in appearance to the aluminum alloy used to manufacture jet aircraft in the 1960s. (See ISBN 9783981655025.) Review: A must for aviation buffs. - When this book came out a while ago, this book looked so amazing, but the cost was pretty prohibitive. However, I became aware of this 'standard' version that was more reasonably priced and practical to purchase. This edition is about the same as the premium edition, but lacks the incredible graphics standards of that book. Okay, I won't be tempted to remove and frame the graphics. On the other hand, for the aviation buff, like myself, this book is really a terrific book. The combination of the major airlines, the evolution of graphic changes and posters and other memorabilia reproduced here is just too awesome. This is a great book to look through, read and absorb. Aviation fans and people with an interest in graphics will love this book. It is just really cool. Sure, the book ignores the last 40 odd years, but what is interesting is how much of the corporate identities we see today on the major airlines have not really changed much over the last decades. Great book. Well worth buying. Review: Gorgeous and Informative - Stunning graphic history of airline advertising art, livery and identity. Spectacular images and fascinating narrative of the history/development of major US and foreign airlines during the heyday of art/illustration. Big book well worth the price and deserving of the praise heaped on it by others.

Beautiful, well-researched and fascinating.
A fascinating read. Beautifully printed like a coffee-table book, but also with well-researched, interesting text on the history of airlines and their design. I highly recommend to anyone interested in the history of commercial flight.

Buy this standard edition for the power of content, the premium edition for the glory of expression.
Cunard's "Getting there is half the fun!" slogan survived in our minds well past the steamship age into the first half of the mass airline transport age. This book tells you how and why. Lacking the knock-down, stunning graphics of the Airline Visual Identity: 1945-1975 Premium Edition it does have nearly all the same content (384 pages in the standard edition, 436 pages in the premium edition). The posters are there, just not reproduced with the expensive (and beautiful) processes that make the premium edition a collector's piece. What you do get is an enormous volume on the development of corporate identity and branding in the airline industry, coupled with background on the professionals involved--the graphics designers, the illustrators, the marketers--and the decisions they faced. I'm going to spend a lot of time in this book and, in a year, it will be worn, full of dog-eared pages and sticky notes, and marked by coffee spills and muffin crumbs. (Should I admit paint spills, too, because I plan to keep this book in the studio for inspiration?) By then, I hope to be able to afford the Premium Edition, too, just to have and hold in my permanent library for the beauty of its content.

Very Well Done
This fits my field of interest and it's a wonderful resource. Staggering actually. I've sat paging through on several nights, enjoying the read.

Extravagant
The production quality of this book is unsurpassed, with many posters and other illustrations reproduced more sharply (and on much better paper!) than they appear in their original print formats. Author Huhne provides valuable biographical information about the artists as well as insights into the methodology of the companies involved in the brand imaging projects for several of the carriers. Even at amazon's discounted price of $250, this is not a casual purchase, but is still a fraction of the cost of an original of many of the posters reproduced in this book. My only misgiving: the book is extravagant in its use of white space, with many blank or nearly blank pages.

A visually superb history of some of the great airlines through their respective posters and advertising
A visually superb history of some of the great airlines through their respective posters and advertising. It also harkens back to an era when air travel was stylish and aspirational, and far less of a commoditised service as it is today. Hopefully there'll be a second book covering other great airlines such as Qantas, KLM, Singapore Airlines, SAS, etc.

Great Alternative to the Orginal!
A graphically beautiful book, showing posters and adverts from a time when travel was a pleasure and not a chore. This is a great alternate to the more expensive edition,. This book is a must for any advertising, aviation, Mid-Century design fan!

Stunning!
Absolutely stunning book. The quality of the printing and paper is exceptional. Would love to see a Railway advertising edition published some day. Anyone thinking that this is a lot of money for a book, you are right but it is well worth it.

livre de très grande qualité
Superbe. le papier est d'une qualité irréprochable et certaines planches sont argentées ou gaufrées. Un vrai plaisir à feuilleter. Vaut largement le prix car doit être considéré comme un livre de collection.
