Fun, passive learning. A total winner!
Really nice! I consider myself fairly well educated, and of course we studied this stuff in school, but I never really had a good understanding of the relative sizes of the players. What an amazing, fun learning tool! Bomb-proof laminating, too!

Learn Without Even Thinking About It!
This placemat contains all nine planets in our solar system (including Pluto, but who's counting?!). It does actually label Pluto as a dwarf planet, so it is correct in that respect. It also labels the sun and the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The placemat I received is actually slightly different than the one pictured. The words "Solar System" are across the top right of the picture and the fun facts are across the bottom. I guess this layout makes reading those fun facts a little easier. The fun facts include the diameter, distance from the sun, temperature, number of moons, rotation, and revolution for all nine planets and the sun. The galaxy in the background is also not pictured in this placemat as it is on the one pictured. (See pictures added to description) It also has a light gray line showing the planet's orbits around the sun. Pluto's line crosses Neptune's in the depiction as Pluto's orbit does every so often. The orbit line of the closest planets go behind the sun, so it appears the orbital plane that we're looking at is offset. It comes laminated and so far (after 1 month) have not had any problems with the lamination coming apart. Overall, very fun and educational for the kids while at the dinner table.

Good, fun educational mats for children.
Simple idea for learning. Clear pictures, lettering, and artwork. One side shows the answers while the back side allows for your child to write the answers down from memory. Actual size of place mats for your table. It would be in your best interest to purchase fine tip dry erase markers to draw and mark answers on mats. Speedy delivery and packaged well. I recommend this for early learning to get children a head start.

Nice graphic. But what is Pluto doing there?
Nice mat, standard quality for this kind of plastic covered placemats. The graphic is really nice with planets in scale and basic information about each one of them. In addition to the sun and planets, there are also the asteroids belt and Pluto. But Pluto is really treated like a planet, with the same information of the planets. So, what about the other dwarf planets then? If it is because somebody nostalgic drew this picture they should know that kids from today don't care about Pluto being demoted to a dwarf planet because they never knew a time what it was defined as a planet. So, either you include the other dwarf planets (at least the major 4 but for sure Eris that is bigger than Pluto) or you leave only the planets.

Eat and learn!
My 7-year-old friend uses this at meals. At other times, he can color the planets on the reverse side with dry erase markers.

Great for Learning
I got this for my homeschooled son. We are learning about the solar system and he loves to point out the different planets. We have gotten acrylic paint on this mat and it cleaned off easily with a baby wipe.

Invisible, Constant Learning
I bought this placemat along with several others to periodically rotate between my kids. If they're in a quiet mood or are the last slow eaters left at the table, they often end up staring at the placemat, comparing planets, orbits, etc. Makes learning seamless and part of their daily living! It has made memorizing the planets, their order, and other fun facts very easy. While it's not "perfect," (who can keep up with Pluto's changing status anyway? ;), it offers plenty of valuable information for elementary aged kids like mine. The placemat seems as well made as could be for a plastic placemat and I expect to hold up for a long time.

Very pleased with how well they have held up and how ...
I bought 4 different styles of these to use as every day placemats for my kitchen table. With two little ones in the house, they come in handy while eating, or just playing at the dinner table. They save my tablecloth and teach at the same time. Very pleased with how well they have held up and how intrigued my children are by them on a daily basis. I can't wait to buy some more to rotate out with these.
