I bought this TWICE because I needed a second one! I have 2 cats. One is an elderly 16 year old cat, the other is almost 5. The oldest cant have dry food or she will puke it up due to sensitive tummy issues, and the youngest wants to have the wet food we give the eldest. So you can see why I needed to get 2 separate ones. It did take a little while to train them to use it (probably at least a month for each cat), but they have no problem now using it. I don't have them microchipped, but the feeders do have their own collar tag with their own code. So each cat has their own collar tag, that works with their own feeder. I've even tested, the covers cant be forcefully opened. So I don't think another animal could even get into it. The feeders don't need to be plugged in too, and just use large batteries. When it came down to training mode, that had me a little worried with the diet differences of both cats. But I tried to watch each cat to see how comfortable they were during each training mode session. Once they went over with no issue with it opening, I went to the next stage. Eventually they had no problem using them. I say be patient, read the training instructions carefully, and it all should be a breeze. Oh last couple notes, my eldest pushes her wet food with her nose a lot, and doing so pushes the food out of the bowl, or it gets stuck onto the cover. Its easy to clean with a sponge. When my youngest was learning to use it, she kept taking the food out of the bowl and monching it outside of the feeder. Now shes okay with keeping her head near the bowl.

My full review after a month! : So I have two cats that need two different diets. One cat that is a food stealer and one very timid girl. Timid cat was eating food stealer's prescription food but it made her turn into a chonk. So we needed a solution that would give timid cat her own private bowl that food stealer couldn't get to, and her own food for weight management. I couldn't just give timid cat her own kind of food because food stealer would steal it all and food stealer wouldn't eat her prescription food, which she needs. So I asked the vet how to help a cat lose weight, he suggested scheduled feeding. I researched online how other people have handled scheduled feeding, and soooooo many people suggested SureFeed feeders as the holy grail of solutions. I was a bit intimidated by the price initially (worth every penny). But I saw it as how I see humans, if I can avoid a problem from getting worse, it'll save me money in the long run. I had spent over $1,000 on food stealer's GI diagnosis already and timid cat was probably on her way to pre-diabetic if I didn't do something. So after a few trial and error with feeding them in separate rooms, the absolute hassle and refusal from the cats to make that work.. I said okay, these feeders are beyond worth paying for to try out. And I am so glad that I did. For me, so far, they are the holy grail. Every problem I was having with food stealer and timid, have been fully resolved with the feeders. They each eat their own meal plan, in their own bowl, and they can't mix. Timid has lost weight already with her weight management food, and stealer is happily eating her GI food. Timid, who is also a grazer, can graze on her own time (Later I will include how timid got used to the feeder itself, because she is..well..timid; I used the collar tag for training!) without stealer eating the wrong food. And timid has gotten much more comfortable knowing that stealer can't bother her feeder. Setup: Setup was easy. Unbox, place where you want it, the large button opens the feeder, add food, click the +pet button to have the feeder detect your pet's microchip. It detects it really easily within a few seconds. You can reprogram that anytime, I did for timid's collar tag. You just hold down the +pet button for 10 seconds, then add the new one. I accidentally put the feeder in training mode not knowing what that button (or training mode) was and had to turn the feeder off and back on and read the directions. If you hit the training mode button and think you broke something....you didn't! Lol. It's probably training mode and you need to read the directions. My cats didn't need the back protector, stealer is thankfully happy using her own feeder. But you could easily use a box (like other people) or put it up against a wall/corner with something to block a side. Adapting to the feeder/how they handled it: I put food in each feeder, and sat them near their old bowls. I used timid cat's original food to start, so she had some familiarity at first. BEFORE letting timid cat in the room, I had stealer in the room alone to show her the feeder and how it opens. She is a glutton so as long as she knows food is in there and she just has to walk up to it for it to give her that food she is good to go. Next was introducing timid. I took stealer out of the room. I opened the feeder for timid and let her sniff. She knew the food was there but didn't want to walk up to it, so I took the food out and sat it in front of the feeder. She ate from it like that for a few days but we needed her to eat from the feeder. Now we have a third cat with food downstairs, and I didn't want timid to get desperate and go eat from that bowl. She needed to learn her own. So we kept timid in HER room for a week to ensure she would get used to her own bowl (letting her out only when supervised). During that week I gradually put the bowl in the feeder more, but left the flap open. Then mid way through the week I closed it. Per the vet, if she is hungry enough, she will use it. And she did. After a day and a half of only drinking water, her instincts kicked in and she opened it herself for the first time (she knew how it worked the whole time, she just didn't like the "opening sound") and over the rest of the week she opened it herself more, and more, and more times. It's been a month now, and she uses it completely normally. Another tip that worked SO well for getting a timid cat used to the feeder was using the included microchip collar tag. At first timid cat didn't like getting too close, but her microchip in her back made it to where she needed to get pretty under there for the flap to open. So I thought "the tag is closer to her face and would open it sooner". So during training I used the collar tag so it wouldn't open right in her face startling her, it opened sooner before she was really close to it and opened gradually as she walked up to it. Shipping: -Ordered 2 of the first gen (the one without the app) because I didn't want the app. Just wanted to keep things simple so I got the regular feeders. They arrived together, on time, and were the correct items. -Included with the feeder: a microchip tag, 2 bowls, a mat, offer for 3 year warranty, and instructions. -Size of feeder: per the box diagram 200mm height x 320mm length. Bowl is 400ml.

Summary: These feeders have been extremely effective in a multi pet household with grazers and one food motivated pet. Our pets range from a 6 lb miniature dog and a small dog around 20 lb to a 10 lb cat and a 15 lb cat, and each one can safely eat their own food without interference while portions stay controlled. Full Review: We currently own four of these selective feeders from SureFlap and use them daily in a mixed household with cats and dogs. Our pets range from a 6 lb miniature dog, a small dog around 20 lb, a 10 lb cat, and a 15 lb cat, and the feeders recognize them reliably. Three feeders are programmed directly to individual microchips, and one is programmed using the included collar tag for a temporary visiting dog. Programming was straightforward, and it is possible to assign more than one pet to a single feeder if needed. The feeders can also be fully reset to clear all programmed pets, which made it easy to reassign one when our household situation changed. Training took a little repetition, but it was easier than expected. We started by placing treats directly in front of the opening and inside the tray so our pets naturally learned to put their face in the correct spot. For two pets that trust handling, I gently guided their bodies and showed them that placing their head near the opening would trigger the lid. It took all of our furbabies a few tries to get used to it. Our small dog’s ears do brush the sides of the opening, which confused him at first when trying to get to his own food. However, that did not stop him from trying to put his head into the other pets’ feeders to see if they would open for him. Thankfully, they did not. These feeders have been a game changer for a household with grazers and one pet that would otherwise overeat. Our grazers can eat when they are hungry without their food being stolen, and the food motivated pet can no longer access meals that are not theirs. It has also stopped two of our grazers from eating each other’s food, which was important for maintaining proper nutrition since one is a small dog and the other is a cat. The only time the system fails is when someone forgets to close a feeder after filling it. In our house that occasionally happens with kids or busy mornings, and the pets will absolutely take advantage of an open feeder. As long as the lids are closed properly, the selective access works exactly as intended. The fourth feeder was added specifically to protect the visiting dog’s food from the other pets. Using the collar tag worked just as reliably as the microchip programming and gave us flexibility for a short term situation. We also upgraded the bowls to the stainless steel version for easier cleaning and labeled each SureFlap feeder with the pet’s initial so we can easily keep track of which feeder is programmed to which pet. ✅ Pros: • Effectively prevents food stealing • Works well for both cats and small dogs • Allows grazers to eat on their own schedule • Supports different diets in the same household • Microchip and collar tag options are both reliable • Feeders can be reset and reprogrammed as needs change ⛔️ Cons: • There can be minor differences in sensor sensitivity between units. Some feeders open very quickly, while others require the pet to place their face closer to the sensor. This temporarily confused one of our cats during training, but with a little repetition they adjusted and now use it without issue. • I do wish the company offered additional size options for larger dogs. These work great for cats and small dogs, but a larger version would have been helpful for our extra large dog whose food was sometimes stolen by our food motivated cat. If they ever expanded the line for bigger dogs, an adjustable height option would also be beneficial so dogs could eat at a more comfortable height that supports their joints. ⭐ Final Thought: I would buy these again without hesitation and would recommend them to any multi pet household dealing with food stealing, portion control, or pets on different diets.

Ordered 4/2025 and have had it for about 6 months now. I do love this product. I got a kitten that believed anything that can be eaten in this house is hers for the taking (dog food, human food, cat food etc). With her stealing our other two cats food I really needed something that let her out but still let our other cats enjoy their food. This product is a pretty penny but I definitely think it was worth it. I had no issues using / setting it up. I have three cats: one large 15 lb adult, one medium 12 lb adult, and a small 8 lb young adult. I have a sure feeder for the two adults. My large cat has no issues eating from the feeder, she does have to get lower than our 12 lb med cat but she doesn’t seem uncomfortable nor unhappy about it. So I would say the fit is fine for my particular cats. This keeps our young adult out of her two sisters’ food while still allowing them to eat as they please, the bars on each side keep her from swooping in beside our other cats. The flap closing time is a good time, not too fast but not too slow, which works as my young adult hasn’t caught on that if she gets in fast enough she could get a bite at least. My only two cons about this feeder are that I wish it had programmable feeding times vs the all day free feed that is standard in these. My cats are on a schedule and I work odd hours that make feeding from the surefeeder inconvenient at times. I also wish that the back cover for the unit came with it rather than having to pay for it separately. TLDR: • Product works, a bit pricey but works for my household of cats. Might not work for quick, greedy cats as the flap won’t close as long as the intended cat is close enough to register the tag • Product Functionality: Effectively prevents other cats from stealing food while allowing access for the intended cats. • Ease of Use: Simple setup and usage with no issues so far • Areas for Improvement: Desire for programmable feeding times and inclusion of the back cover in the initial purchase. Overall 4/5 star product, and in my opinion, it was worth the money I paid. If they came out with one with a programmable feeding time or a dispenser attachment I’d buy it in a heart beat.

Too expensive, especially considering it doesn’t even come with the C battery you need to use it. But besides that it works perfectly. It is easy to train your cat on. You don’t have to stick their head all the way under the bar, which I was scared you’d have to do. It’s easy for the cats to learn and it’s easy to use. My cats were scared of the noise at first, but it didn’t take them long to learn it.

Okay, so I have seen this thing before and I finally decided to buy it in May 2016 (this year) for my oldest cat so my fat cat doesn't eat her food. I have tried everything to get him to drop weight but aside from separating them (headache) and they refuse to do so or sitting with them (which my momma/oldest cat doesn't eat in on sitting) it just hasn't worked. So, I invested. Thing is, at first she would eat from it. She didn't seem bothered but within the first day she just decided she wouldn't eat from it. I cant get her to do so. I even tried to warm her up to it but no, the fatty would just jump up there and eat her food. I finally gave up. (she's a b and super moody/stubborn). This was a bummer cause I had to buy a specific leather collar for her because she has allergy issues and a regular collar is a no go because she will scratch at it so much it frays and she nearly chokes herself with the collar. I decided to make the fatty use it. It's been going well. He doesn't mind it. I have to keep my oldest cats food up on the spare mattress in the room (I hate it but she has made that place her home so far) and I haven't seen him jump up there. So, I've specifically measured the food and he seems to be doing well. So, it works for him. I think maybe if I get another for her it'd be best cause she wont be able to refuse but who knows. Now I have a new kitten whom loves the fat cat (who is only sociable with me and actually chases the dog away for attention) which is entertaining to say the least. Problem is, she sneaks up on him and goes under to get his food. Poor thing nearly died outside when my fiancé found her. It's a whole story of family dying maybe of starvation or heat exhaustion but she lived and is super healthy, not scared of a huge truck, forklift, even the fat cat or dog. She does fear my momma cat as she hisses at her like a meanie. I will also say that she's fast to get in to take his food if he's eating which displeases him but she's such a lover. However, when it's closed she will dance all over top of it and cant eat it. This pleases my fat cat much. To watch her try but not get his food. Good entertainment. Overall, I'd love to get two more of these eventually but right now it's just steep. I'm disappointed that my momma didn't take to it but it's doing its job. I'm not sure why someone would have 30 something cats (yes, you can program that many) or why you would need this feeder to program that many cats to eat from one small bowl. It doesn't make sense. You cant put food for 30 something cats in the feeder and at that point you don't even need this thing and it's probably much more fancier than that person would need with that many cats. Seems like a waste and pointless but sure is funny to think about. Whatever. I do know that the timer can be changed to close sooner so the kitten doesn't get to it as quickly but the way she sneaks in I doubt itll help. Overall, it's a great product! Truly. I wish I would have gotten it cheaper of course. I gave it a 4 star because my momma cat just hated it and I even did what it said for shy cats but they need to have a mood cat adjustment section in the instructions. Not that it is the companies fault but it's so expensive it's truly ridiculous. But I digress, I still think I'd buy more for my other pets. I have already talked about it. Just wishing I could get a discount for getting two or something. UPDATE July 16, 2016: so, I thought it odd before that the lid opens without my cats collar but thought it was just due to my smart watch or something. However, I didn't worry about it since my fat cat is the only one who eats from it (waste of money since its my mama cats food that needs to be protected from HIM) but I made it work. I was having no issues with the new kitty except trying to train her it's not her bowl which was fine. She would play on it and not get any food but I've noticed that if you walk in the feeder or put your hand in it enough it'll open for you without the chip or pressing the button. Sometimes it does it just in one try. Pisses me off cause my dog now has started attempting to eat their food unlike before and if I'm not home he other half doesn't know what he did. Anyway, I'm not happy with this. I reset the feeder. Reprogrammed the chip reader and changed everything. I'm pissed at this point cause $150 is not cheap for a bowl that doesn't do what it says it will. I liked this a lot but now I'm extremely unhappy about it because it's not just about my fat cat not eating other cats food. It's so much more. I've dropped the stars to one now. Attempting to log onto the website for help is a joke too. You sign in and it keeps saying your signed in but takes you back to the page you were on and low and behold you aren't signed in and can't make a comment or ask a question. The only solution for another person with this problem was to reset or call them. I don't even know what kind of number that is so that's not a possibility. The other solution didn't work.

I could not recommend this product (the original) more highly. I have 2 cats: cat 1 needs special food and cat 2 is the alpha. I bought one of these feeders in 2017 for cat 1 so that cat 2 couldn’t steal his food; in 2020, cat 1 kept eating cat 2’s food instead of his own, so I bought another feeder for cat 2. These durable delights still work like magic now in 2026! And I mean DURABLE. They have been through a LOT—kicked off of countless surfaces, dropped, flipped, etc. Yet despite the years of abuse, both feeders only ever open for the correct cat, the incorrect cat isn’t able to successfully extricate food while the correct cat has it open, and the feeder closes as the correct cat walks away. If one of my feeders ever glitches, that just means it’s time to change the batteries. If you’re struggling to get cat 1 to eat cat 1’s food because of cat 2, and you’re wondering whether this feeder is worth the money: yes, it’s worth it.

This product is very easy to program and works great. If you have a cat that eats crouched down on the ground on its belly it’s perfect. We have a cat who prefers to eat standing up. The design for cats who eat this way doesn’t work well. It’s a shame they don’t offer two types of feeders for cats. We will probably end up modifying it so her can use it better. In the pic you can see, our cat has to walk all the way to the edge just to get his head close to the bowl and we have to elevate it because if it’s on the floor her can’t easily access it (he has a leg injury so he doesn’t crouch to eat anymore) would be perfect for standing cats if it were sold without the little food catching ledge in the front.

I've used two of these for about 8 months and they work great. While I could feed the cats in a place where the dogs couldn't reach, I needed these to feed my two cats different diets and to keep out the greedy third cat who eats all available food immediately. My cats eat in small doses throughout the day. As a bonus, this feeder keeps the dogs out so I can put the feeders in a more convenient location. My old cats have old chips that don't work with these feeders so I simply used the included tag on a collar and that works well. I changed my feeders to close as quickly as possible by moving the switch on the bottom to position 1. Keeps the others from grabbing a quick snack after one of the cats leaves. This switch appears to change the delay between when the cat removes its head from the feeder hoop until the cover closes. That hoop appears to have sensors so it can tell when the cat has its head over the food dish. The cover only opens when a correct tag/chip is detected and a cat puts its head through that hoop to get to the food. I have now changed batteries once on both feeders. They lasted a bit more than 6 months despite frequent opening and closing. One of my cats is a fussy eater who is underweight so I open the feeder frequently to re-arrange his wet food and try to convince him to eat more. As expected the batteries for his feeder needed changing a few weeks before the other feeder. Four alkaline C cells per feeder. Although I would prefer to reduce my use of batteries, the feeder does not support an AC adapter. I had one problem but an easy solution. I found that cat sitters sometimes tapped the wrong button to open the feeders to add more food, or to try to correct the incorrect operation of the feeder after they tapped an incorrect button. If they tapped the training button then the feeder stayed partly open which sometimes allowed the wrong cat to get a snack. Last time I was away my cat sitter tapped the buttons to program a new tag, and the result was that both of my cats gained access to both feeders. Took me a day after I got home to figure this out but it was easily remedied. I have now made a cover from a plastic container lid and taped it so that it hangs over those two buttons to prevent accidental activation. I had not had that problem myself because the button to open the feeder is larger, but the three buttons are side by side so a bit of care is required to not tap the wrong one. The feeder wipes clean with a damp cloth. A soft brush (toothbrush) helps get into a few places. If you want to more closely manage which cat(s) eat what food, either to manage how much they eat, or what food they eat, or if you want to lock out other pets from eating the cat food, this is a great solution. One feeder can be be programmed to respond to numerous tags/chips if desired.

This is a wonderful device that works perfectly and is very hard to find fault with. I bought it because my elderly cat was having his food stolen by a neighbour's cat and this exceeded all my expectations. It appears to have been improved too, as earlier reviews mention a noisy motor, which can scare cats, but mine is virtually silent. Some reviews also mention how cats can steal food from the side when it is open. But mine has clear plastic screens which help prevent this. Not only does this ensure my cat has the food he wants and the medication he needs, but, because he used to wake me up when there was no food available in the middle of the night, it means I get to sleep better too! It also provides mental stimulation as the cat learns to use it. It did take my cat a little while to get used to it but a cat's natural curiosity helps and it is well worth persevering. It has a training mode which also helps, but my top tip is to put some treats on the front tray. When the cat eats the treats, the main compartment opens and the cat gets a nice surprise that food becomes available! I also recommend setting the switch on the bottom to the slowest closing setting at first. This ensures it stays open for at least 20-30 seconds after the cat moves away so it stays open if the cat picks up some food to eat on the floor, as mine often does, or it just backs away temporarily to gain confidence. But after a while, the natural caution subsides and the cat is happy to use it. I'm summary, I can't recommend it enough. It is fairly compact, feels well constructed and does exactly what it is supposed to do. I only have one cat but I can imagine it is great for multi cat households where one cat needs special food or medicine. Perfect!!

猫2頭飼いです。メタボ雄猫のダイエット用に購入しました。雌猫のご飯を奪ってしまいドンドン太っていき困っていましたが、 シェアーフィーダーを雌猫に使用したところ、メタボ猫が雌猫の餌を奪えなくなったので、食事調整ができてこの一ヶ月で体重が8.76kg→8.435kg に減量できました。目標は1年後6kg 台なので、期待できます。 お値段は高いと思いましたが、メタボ猫の成人病ならぬ成猫病のオンパレードになってしまい（現在内蔵脂肪、気道狭窄で喘息、関節炎、膀胱結石）こちらの症状改善が期待できるので、改善できるのでしたらありがたい品です。

Meglio in acciaio.” Ottimo distributore di cibo, perfetto per chi deve tener sotto controllo l’alimentazione o semplicemente evitare che più gatti si rubino il cibo a vicenda. Dispone anche di una modalità “addestramento” per i gatti più paurosi. La mia gatta ha imparato subito ad usarlo, già dalla memorizzazione del microchip. È semplice da usare e facile da pulire. L’unico problemino, come già specificato da altri acquirenti, è la chiusura del coperchio che anche se dispone di tre velocità non è immediato nella chiusura. Se un gatto è molto furbo può infilarsi subito dietro e mangiare. Al momento questo problema non mi riguarda, in quanto gli altri hanno paura dello sportello che si apre e chiude, e la gatta registrata non si allontana mai come finisce di mangiare, dando cosiddetto il tempo al coperchio di chiudersi prima che gli altri provino ad avvicinarsi. Come valutazione complessiva do comunque 5 stelle perché le merita, e quando tornerà in offerta provvederò ad acquistarlo anche per gli altri due gatti.
