Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 v2 (69A-00001)

I've only been using this combo for 2-3 weeks and am totally pleased with its' design and functionality. It may be a bit presumptive to be submitting a review based on such short usage but I wanted to address a couple of issues raised in other reviews I read in my browsing. I researched and read lots of reviews of this product before buying. A couple of the items I repetedly saw concerned the 'working distance' and keyboard design and layout. Firstly, the working distance is not a problem. I have the receiver sitting on top of my printer on my desk and use the unit from my recliner 6' to 8' away. The printer is a boxy type Canon that comes in handy as a a shelf for papers, bills, etc so it sometimes is a bit cluttered, but this has not interferred with the reception at all. The only reception problem I had, oddly enough, was when I was using this on my desk. I got a low signal warning and a prompt to open the troubleshooter. I clicked the 'No' response and continued with no further problem. Could be my Zippo lighter, metal letter opener, steel ruler and an odd assortment of pens and pencil sitting in front of the mouse caused the problem. But, no problems since straightening my desk. The keyboard is solid and comfortable. I rest my palms on the padded wrist rest and, with its curved design, the keys are well placed within easy reach; they do not feel imbedded and I haven't had any problems with interference from the frame body. I read a bit about the keyboard being cheap and light weight, but I would not want anything heavier sitting on my lap while I use it. The key strokes are firm, quiet and responsive and, contrary to something I read, will repeat if you hold them down. There are a lot of options available to reassign the keys to your personal taste. The 'Zoom' key is a neat feature, it enlarges the whole page, photo, etc, a step at a time, as opposed to the mouse 'Zoom' that gives an enlarged picture of the area you're immediately looking at. I am really starting to enjoy both. The mouse is well designed, well weighted and comfortable, but it is definitely made for right hand use. One drawback though is that the 'laser eye' is off center, something to keep in mind if you use it against your leg or any other-than-flat surface. I primarily use my computer for typing, bill paying, shopping and normal home use, so I can't comment on how useful this would be for games. Overall, though, I highly recommend this unit for those looking for a good, general use unit at reasonable price. Oh, and it was sure nioe to get rid of those infernal wires that kept me tied down and hunched over my desk.

Keyboard PROS: Great keyboard, soft-touch keys, useful convenience keys, great battery life CONS: Occasionally misses inputs or CTRL/SHIFT presses, no Caps/Num/Scroll lock lights on the keyboard itself The Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop keyboard is not a "laser keyboard" at all, but a standard Microsoft keyboard (the mouse is a laser mouse). The keypad is curved, somewhat like the Microsoft "Natural" Keyboard, but not as drastically. To accomodate for the bend in the keyboard, the T, Y, G, H, B, and N keys are slightly bigger. Makes for a little more comfortable hand position, and just like its natural cousin, it works just fine if you know traditional two-handed touch typing. But if you're like me, who uses a combination of touch typing and right-hand dominance (my right hand typing things that my left hand is technically supposed to type), it takes a few days to get used to. The wrist rest is soft and is a great place to land your hands, but does not help with holding your wrists in the appropriate spot for the prevention of carpal tunnel. You'd still need an additional wrist rest in addition to the one attached to the keyboard to properly align your wrists. The real fun in this keyboard is the function buttons, both dedicated and shared. Across the top are your standard multimedia buttons (play/pause, prev. song, next song, mute, and volume up/down), and then there is a series of programmable shortcut buttons which can be programmed for anything, like a website address or an application. You do need to load the included software in order to use those hard keys. On the left side of the keyboard are some web buttons; forward and back, home, My Documents, My Pictures, e-mail (which opens your default email client), My Music, and then a dedicated button which is defaulted to open Windows Live Call. Kinda pointless in my opinion unless you use Windows Live Call, but you could program it to open any application or shortcut, as you can with any of the buttons on the keyboard. The lower left of the keyboard contains a zoom rocker to zoom in or out of current screen content (i.e. in Word, it increases magnification, and in your browser, it changes the text size), and then there is a dedicated "Gadgets" button which opens Gadgets on Windows Live. If you use Gadgets on Windows Live, it's a great button to have. But for me, I have it reprogrammed to show/hide the desktop, something I have to do frequently at my job, where they have placed several Active Desktop icons on my PC which I'm required to use. The function keys across the top have other Microsoft-programmed functions such as Help, Undo, Save, Print, etc. These are accessed or turned off using a F-Lock button (Function Lock). So if you use F5, F6, F7, etc. for your job (like I do), you have to turn the F-Lock ON to enable the original function keys. Otherwise, you turn it OFF to enable the Microsoft functions. It also has a hard calculator button, and a logoff button above the num pad. My only major gripe with the keyboard is that there are no lights on the keyboard itself to show caps lock, num lock or scroll lock (which has no light anywhere at all). There are three lights on the radio receiver (the little device that plugs into your USB port) that indicate Caps, Num, and Function lock, but no scroll lock light. I understand why it's not there, but that doesn't make it any more or less convenient. Mouse PROS: Very accurate, great acceleration, great ergo shape, convenient extra buttons CONS: None that I can think of I really love this mouse. It's really ergonomic, fits my hand well, and is extremely accurate. Plus, unlike other "laser" mice which actually use a red LED to illuminate the surface, this one actually uses a true Class 1 invisible laser, which provides for very accurate mousing. The scroll wheel is great, it rocks left and right to side-scroll a page, and by default, clicking the wheel shows you previews of all your open windows and allows you to choose. Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase and highly recommend it.

I ordered this desktop set about 2 months back. It arrived in matter of days. Getting it installed and starting to using it, was quite easy. But it is not really portable. The dongle that acts as connecting bridge between mouse & keyboard and desktop is size of the mouse itself; as against to the modern small USB adapters we get these days. So if you wanted to use this mouse somewhere else, you are actually carrying 2 mice. Also, all the extra features are not really readily available, you need to install them specifically. But Keyboard is really ergonomically beneficial. Some of the keys on my keyboard are not really guaranteed to type- like a, t, d and c. I have to always double check, they actually got typed out. The mouse gets goofed up a lot of times too.. So all in all, its not a completely satisfying piece of equipment, but gets the job done. I would not recommend buying it.

This is my second Microsoft Wireless Keyboard. The first one I had was a Microsoft Wireless 4000 Keyboard which worked well although sometimes it was lose connectivity or the signal would get week, and secondly the lettering was cheap on the keys. I type so much that I literally typed the letters off of the keys and had to get keyboard stickers to replace the letters that had come off three times. So finally I bought another Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 6000 and this works great. I've only had it about a month, but so far so good. I own a typing business so I need a keyboard that works great. And I absolutely love the touch of this one, the gadget keys, etc. Well worth the money and cheaper online.

Considering the age of this product, it was brand new. I wanted a replacement for my old keyboard and mouse which is a discontinued product. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this was boxed and new and the product arrived in very neat and considerate packaging. I would rate this as a perfect purchase from a great seller.
