whats the difference between this version and the $399 version?

Professional is Professional... doesn't matter how much you pay. I purchased the cheaper one and received the exact same product. Not sure why the 100 dollar difference. Came in the same box as far as I can tell. I was able to take the 2.6.x update too. Same/same... Will it work with windows 8 (or 10 when its released)

Yes Studio One 2 is fully compatible with windows 8. It will eventually be windows 10 compatible, but maybe not on day one of the windows 10 release... Lot of things unknown and possible glitches with that big switch over. They might need to release and free update to resolve unforeseen glitches in the new operating system

Is there a manual included in the box?

There is an electronic copy of the Studio One Reference Manual in PDF format that can be viewed and/or printed by the end-user. I purchased an independent book online from Amazon to compliment the PDF manual.

do the disc or discs come with it?? or is it a download that you have to do with a keycode??

The disc does come with the product in the box. However, you will want to download the updates to get the most current version from the Presonus website.Gary
