Hi. You put the leak detection fluid (LDF) on gas joints and pipes after installation to check that there are no leaks. If there is a leak then the fluid will bubble up as the escaping gas comes out ( think blowing into a fizzy drink through a drinking straw ) It can also be used by engineers to check disturbed joints after a service on an appliance. ( if you remove a test screw to check the gas flow etc ) It is mainly used by gas/ ac / refrigerator engineers but could be used to check that any installation/pipework is gas tight.
