I liked this movie, and I really like a lot of Clint Eastwood movies, but I read the book first and I can't relate Terry McCaleb to Clint Eastwood very well. There is one book where Terry McCaleb meets Harry Bosch in "A Darkness More Than Night" - which is very intriguing. Amazon Prime has the series "Bosch," which is very well done and extremely well cast. I just can't see the character portraying Harry Bosch in "Bosch" coming up against Clint Eastwood as Terry McCaleb - if the two stories every mesh or if Bosch ever covers that book in the series, it should be interesting - maybe in a good way, maybe not. I liked the movie, it was good, but I'd like to have seen Terry McCaleb cast as a younger man. The movie does a great job of following the book and I'd watch it again even given my negative comments in this review.

According to this movie, Clint had received a lifesaving transplant, but showed responsibility to find donor killer.

PLOT: retired FBI profiler has a serial killer from years ago contact him again. "Retired" FBI profiler Terry McCaleb (CLINT EASTWOOD) is given a new heart via transplant. He spends his time taking 34 anti-rejection drugs a day and working on his boat. Wanda DeJesus contacts him to look into the murder of her sister during a failed store robbery. Terry finds he had been given the heart via his transplant of a brain dead woman named Glory who happens to be Dejesus's sister. Terry feels drawn to DeJesus and feels he "owes" her something. He looks into the "botched" robbery/killing of her sister which turns out to be anything but random. This is based on Michael Connelly's best selling book. This movie loosely follows that plot. The plot is very good and Terry is good as he figures out the "numbers and messages" at crimes scenes are meant for him. The serial killer feels a "connection" with Terry. This plot unfolds slow and methodically. You have to pay attention on the details of "why" and "who" via the demented logic of the killer. I give this one 5 STARS for a good plot, and acting. Scene stealer here is DeJesus who is a very good women who loves her sister and the son she left behind. Jeff Daniels is great ast the Boat Bum neighbor of Terry who spends his days drinking beer and driving Terry around crime scenes.

I just read the book. The movie made major changes to the book, which I didn't care for. I'd have to say the book was much better than the movie.

This is movie nobody’s or a lot of people have never heard about. It is an underrated hidden gem of Clint Eastwood’s. I highly recommend it even though it’s 20 years old it really stands up and it’s Clint Eastwood. Excellent film à voir ou à revoir sur un thriller haletant avec un C. Eastwood toujours aussi impeccable, dans un rôle encore interessant d'une gratitude à honorer contre une vie reçue par un don d'organe.

I find Blood Work really underrated. The movie is a very entertaining police procedural, nothing more and nothing less. Eastwood is perfect for the lead and the movie certainly benefits from his direction and production values. The blu-ray image is very good and the soundtrack benefits from the lossless remaster.

Dieser Film ist mal wieder ein gutes Beispiel, dass die Klappentexte und Produktbeschreibungen oft eher davon abhalten einen guten Film zu kaufen, als dazu animieren. Wenn man den Klappentext liest ist dort von einem alten FBI-Agent die Rede, der nach einer Herztransplantation den Mord an seiner Spenderin aufklären will. Das klingt alles sehr klischeehaft und fast schon kitschig, aber man sollte auf Eastwood vertrauen und dem Film eine Chance geben. Für diesen Film stand Clint Eastwood sowohl hinter als auch vor der Kamera, und erzählt dabei die Geschichte eines alternden Ermittlers. Eastwood spielt die Rolle hervorragend, man hat Angst er würde wirklich gleich zusammenbrechen. Er wirkt nicht wie einer fitter Schauspieler, der sich künstlich alt stellt - mehr wie ein schwächerlich Schauspieler, der vor der Kamera noch einmal seine Leistung zeigen will - eben wie der Ermittler, den er spielt. Der Film hat wunderbar stimmungsvolle und auch emotionale Szenen, aber auch Action - und diese wirkt gleich viel intensiver und dramatischer, weil nicht aller 5 minuten eine Schießerei stattfindet. Besonders fand ich eine Szene, in der sich Eastwood zu einer öffentlichen Bücherei fahren lässt, um in einem Online-Archive etwas zu suchen. Ist zwar keine große Sache, zeigt aber gut wie dieser alte Mann immer noch auf dem neuesten Stand ermitteln will. Bei all dem Lob muss ich allerdings sagen, dass ich das Ende und die Enttarnung des Mörders etwas schwach fand. Liegt vielleicht auch daran, dass mir der Schauspieler im Gegensatz zum restlichen Cast von Anfang an wenig zusagte. Die BR hat ein paar kleine Extras, aber nichts besonderes.
