Trouper Review: There's someone for everyone at your local animal shelter! - Three things I love about this book: The drawings are beautiful. The story teaches children about compassion and accepting differences. The book promotes the joys of shelter adoption. We have also adopted a three-legged dog and I would highly recommend adopting a dog with differences. Dogs never worry about their differences or feel sorry for themselves; they are an inspiration. If you or your children love dogs, get the book! Review: Being imperfect is ok - I love this book. When I read it to the kids at storytime I always end with ... asking oh wow whatโs going on here 5 footprints. The boy has how many legs? They say 2. A dog has how many legs, they say 4. So how many prints should there be. 2+4=6. But wait there are 5. And the kids just love that realization that the dog is missing a leg and thatโs why he was passed over so many times at the shelter for adoption. Very powerful

Art and Prose that magnify each other
It's hard to know what to praise most in "Trouper "- the art (EB Lewis) the poetic prose (Meg Kearney) or the fun romp that a good boy/dog story provides. With phrases like "my heart was a cold starless night until your face shone through the bars like a mini sun" will have your child loving language and the story of Trouper's happy ending will let her know that bad times and handicaps do not mean the end of possibilities. I am buying a second copy for my 5 year old grand-nephew who loves his dog as much as the boy in this story. This one's a treasure - enjoy!

Amazing story! When I read this to my 5th graders I cried, they cried, and at the end they were all chanting, "Trouper!" because they want this book to win on our March Book Madness tournament!

A wonderful story and gorgeous illustrations
My grandson (4 years old) loved the book, and this was also a perfect way to teach him how it's better to adopt pets instead of buying them. The books reads so easily. I highly recommend it!
