Review: Excellent Source of Information - I'm only on page 73 so far, but it is an excellent source of information. It is well explained, in depth and there is nothing I, as a runner, can't find out from this book. It shows you how everything - muscles, joints etc. works and how to prevent injury and how to improve performance. The author clearly knows his stuff and Dorling Kindersley only ever publish worthwhile books. I would thoroughly recommend. Review: A bit of Science in my daily routine - Having been a runner for 30 years I decided to have a shufty at the science behind what Iโve spent so much time doing. I did red the book cover to cover. Itโs now available for me to delve back in when I have a specific query. Very easy to read and understand. Great coloured diagrams. The text easily makes sense even for someone such as myself who has zero scientific knowledge. Plenty of info that makes you sit up and think about. Good elements around injuries with the cause and how to support/train round/correct. Even has training plans for all the usual race distances. All in all I e found this a great book which will undoubtedly be used for reference for years to come.

Beautifully presented and useful addition to any running library
Looking at negative reviews, it is not surprising this book doesn't work on Kindle (except perhaps on a large screen). However, the flexibound version works great, looks good, is a pleasure to read and, for me, will remain as a handy reference for many years. The book covers a lot of physiology of running as basis for understanding injury prevention, role of stretching and strength exercises (which are all described and illustrated in full detail). Some of it is also useful for understanding more esoteric metrics appearing on exercise watches. In my view, this is what distinguishes this publication from many other training books. The training section includes a good selection of training plans for usual distances (from 5K to marathon) and covers enough on training principles to adjust or design your own programme(s). It is so refreshing to see a well thought-out and edited book for runners (DK publications often are). The list of people involved for its production speaks for itself; it is beautifully illustrated throughout and full of sensible, up-to-date and actionable information. The Science of Running could easily become a full 5-star 'bible', with some treament of diet, age and sex - specific advice (e.g. how to monitor progress and fitness in untrained/older individuals), to help 'the back of the pack' runners too. Fully recommended!

Wonderful Book!
A must for any serious( or not-take-yourself-too-seriously!) runner. This is a great help in understanding and treating all those niggling minor injuries that donโt quite need a trip to the physio. Each time I start getting a persistent pain spot I can usually find an explanation and advice on how to correct it from this book. Highly recommended! Great even for students of anatomy tooโฆ
