Consistently good across the entire album
Not overly complex, but rhythmic, upbeat, and still club-like without the audience. Kind of sounds like one long session and I've listened on multiple driving trips where I just keep looping it. Hardly gets dull! Mobley may not have been one of the greats, but he's put together a great band and they definitely get a "workout" here! It's on my trip "must-have" list.

Take Soul Station, Add Guitar
This is another excellent album by Hank Mobley which was his second sequel (after "Roll Call") to his highly praised "Soul Station" from 1960. This album finds him playing in the same lyrical style as on "Soul Station" with lots of rhythmic vitality and flowing melodies. As on the previous albums, he was accompanied by Wynton Kelly on piano and Paul Chambers on bass, but Philly Joe Jones replaced Art Blakey on drums. The main difference on this album was the addition of Grant Green on electric guitar who added some bluesy contrast in his solos. The rhythm section provided steady backing and all got chances to solo, demonstrating their excellence all around.I believe that Wynton Kelly quotes "Get Me to the Church on Time" from "My Fair Lady" at the beginning of his solo on "The Best Things in Life are Free", but I'm not sure. Every tune on this album is enjoyable, and there is a nice balance between bop, blues, and ballads.
