What a powerful, clear introduction to Linear Algebra! Since the field was completed long before this book was published (although important generalizations have been made, they are far above the level of this course), it is as good as the current edition for reference, at a tiny fraction of the cost.Examples are insightful and numerous - exposition is even better. Strang reminds the student where Linear Algebra fits in the big picture and does so with the brilliance of Feynman.The only exception is for computer scientists, who will find that the examples are quite dated. However, a bright programmer will be able to adapt the programming examples pretty easily, since Strang has such excellent exposition.Buy the book your instructor assigns for the class, sell it back and buy this for your library.

this book covers more useful aspects of linear algebra than the course I had in college.

It is in line with Strang's lectures. It is thorough and presents the subject well.

Gilbert Strang has defined the modern teaching of Linear Algebra. This book and his "Introduction to Linear Algebra" should be taught to engineering majors even before Calculus

This is a well-written text. I also have a first edition, which was excellent, yet Strang has improved the clarity with every edition. If you solve every example, you will be well-prepared for anything that your math department throws at you.

This is one of the best beginning books on linear algebra. I used it to help get through a quantum mechanics class and have returned to it since to brush up on my linear algebra.

The book is great. But the paperback's paper I bought looks not very high quality.
