Math Art

Coffee table paper weight/door stop. Wafer thin on the math, truth, beauty and equations.
Lots of colourful but unimpressive pictures. Might be of slight interest if you're into art, especially modern so-called "art", but I regard most of it as an insult to my intelligence. Very little mathematics. Failed to see the 'Truth', didn't see much 'Beauty', precious few 'Equations'. Huge disappointment.

No equations, only creative writing and some pictures
I purchased this book expecting to find some equations and mathematical formulas which I could use to generate nice pictures, nice graphics. This book is filled with only creative writing and some pictures. There is the π constant with 100 digit accuracy. There are a few equations, e.g. y = x^2 and 2^10 = 1,024 which have nothing common with art as much as I can tell. For a person expecting some mathematical equations used to generate art, e.g. fractals, this book is useless. There are some color pictures. The most complex math formula is on page 105: 5 cities = 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 120

Shows the sublime beauty of math
When I was in college studying engineering, I often thought "wow...there's a wonderful underpinning of the universe here in math." Certain constants (pi, e, 137) just seemed to show up everywhere. After graduating from college, getting a job, raising a family and the like, these ideas took a back seat to day to day pressures. After reading this book, I was reminded of the beauty of math again. As an engineer I would have loved to have this book dig deeper into the math details, but I acknowledge that presenting these ideas at a higher level makes the book more approachable and is a fine tradeoff. Highly recommended. And check out the links in the book. They make some of the math really come alive.

Eye-opening!
This book is so clearly written that it is a joy to read! The math is explained in terms a non-math person can understand, and the connections made to the works of art are exciting. It is an eye-opening experience just reading this and following up some of the references to the artists’ websites.
