PVR Without Need for Computer
Before I purchased, I knew that this was a unit primarily made for countries other than the U.S. You need to be aware of this as some of the functions will not work in the US (channel scan), and no tuner. The main reason for purchase was to have a hard disk recorder that did not need to have a computer connected to it to function. Have only been using for about a couple of day, but for about $100, met my needs. On the rear of the unit, the hookups are SCART card hookups (overseas use), a European Antenna connector (not much use here, because as far as I can tell from the documentation, it is pass through only, and you would need some adapters for US); usb connector for for accessing external storage device or adding a wireless connector; Network jack so that you can use the device to access shared folders and files on other devices (it will play certain types of files in shared folders, you can also copy files to and from the Markus over the network); component video out; composite in; hdmi out; optical digital input; can only record one show at a time; there are a couple of other connections I don't use, but you should be able to look up some images on Google or at the btecanada.com site. Can be used as FTP server or a Samba server. You supply the hard drive, sata, and max capacity seems to be 2tb. Will need to purchase a connector (not a converter) that will convert the two prong round plugs to two prong square US plug. All of these functions, including network setup, are done through the interface via the TV. the manual is adequate, but not the best translation. The manufacturer, Hantech, does have a website,hantecheurope.com but it really does not look like it has been updated recently. I cannot tell for sure, but onedealoutlet (seller) and btecanada.com could be the same company or closely related. BTE did not return an email that was sent pre purchase regarding items for sale on their website. Only mentioning, since you may not have much support if you choose to purchase.

Faulty timer recording.
The HDR works fine, except for the 30,60,120,240,360 timer recording, it continues recording no matter how much time you set.

Run far far away from this one!
I had an Argosy PVR. I loved it, but sadly it died. I went out to order another, but they no longer stock/make Argosy anymore. So.. I looked high and low for a equivalent replacement. the Markus PRO 1080 HD PVR looked like it would fill the void the Argosy left.I was wrong. I had to reformat the drive first in order for the Markus to see the drive. The HDMI is not compatible with my TV. I have a great picture but no sound. I cannot find firmware updates. There is no website to get any information or updates. The interface is flaky. The Argosy supported unbelievable amounts of media formats, Markus does not.My advise- steer clear of this turd. It's not worth the money and I would not like someone else follow this path and get screwed on what this device promises but does not deliver.I have no beef with the company. They shipped and delivered. I don't blame the company for this device's faults, they simply sell a product. The manufacturer, I do have a beef with. No website, no service. No ordering hantech again.

Worked great at first but went bad quick..
When I first bought the product I was excited. The set up was very simple. I hooked up my external hard drive to the player and it was just perfect for watching movies and video files to my television. I then decided to record a test video off my ROKU box and XBox. The videos from each came out perfect. Exactly what I was looking for! That is until, after about two hours of use, the Markus Pro became very hot and the picture lost it's color. After another day of troubleshooting and at a loss of ideas, I sadly had to return the product for a full refund. The module did come with an European electrical plug along with an American adapter. In my opinion, I think it was the power source that burned the thing out. Until this company can manufacture a product to be fully operational in the U.S. without the use of an European power supply, I will not be buying anymore products from them. But then again, (through a lot of research), I found this item to be a great idea and concept; Very unique to what's being sold out there today. There should be more products like this one, but without the flaw..

Not worth the money
I've had to try three different drives. The first two drives (which are perfectly good) shows up as "bad drive." I haven't had any luck setting up a usb flash drive or usb hard dirve on it. So far it won't recognize it. Really a piece of junk.
