I used this for my smoker shed, so not sure about the cfm's

How does this effect the rated CFM?

CFM is a measure of volume over time. Any time the output is restricted (say 6" down to 4") you can expect a back pressure and a REDUCTION in CFM, even if there is an increase in velocity (speed) of the airflow. Opening back up this restriction (4" up to 6") will not necessarily increase your CFM, it just decreases the velocity of the airflow and is less restrictive. It is not possible to increase CFM in this manner, without the introduction of another fan beyond the initial restriction.
