Schrade Delta Class Reckon Pen with Refillable Capabilities, Screw-off Cap for Outdoor Survival, Self Defense, EDC

Boom. It's a reasonably priced, well-made, Tactical pen. I did so much research on these and ultimately ordered this one. Since then I've ordered another for my brother. I've traveled internationally with this, no problem in and out of airports and security. Just don't wave it around in front of a TSA agent. Keep it in your bag. Not sure about the tactical capabilities--haven't needed to use it in any real life scenario. But I have no doubt it looks cool, writes well, and could do way more damage than a normal Bic pen. I would recommend purchasing a gel cartridge for it though. The cartridge it comes with is okay, but for a better writing experience buy a better refill. Only possible pain point for this--the weight. I wouldn't want to write an essay with this. Too heavy. But again, this is a tactical pen and isn't meant to write with all day. It's meant to sign your name and then stab someone (*only in situations where your life is being threatened and it is a last resort to survival). This gets my recommendation. A solid, well-made mix of tactical and ever day function.

Just got it today, so this review is initial impressions. It is as advertised, and I suppose this is a good price, although there's not much to a pen. Fit and finish is excellent. Feels and looks very cool, we'll see how the anodizing wears. The screw-on lid feels tight and secure, and the friction fit to put it on the back is surprisingly good. The ink isn't the smoothest or darkest, pretty typical ballpoint pen, however it is a Schmidt ink cartridge from Germany, so we'll see how long it lasts. They have a lot of different types of ink cartridges including pressurized, so you have options down the road. It is fairly heavy, to be expected, but the balance makes it not that bad. It would serve great as a pen for taking field notes or leaving in the car, wouldn't recommend it for writing essays. The pocket clip is strong and held by two torx screws. As a non-lethal defense tool (hopefully you'd never have to use it for that), I'd say this is pretty good. It feels comfortable in the hand with a reverse grip, the cap has rounded edges so it wouldn't cut into you if you were to strike with it. Pressing into my own skin, I can tell this can cause real pain and damage. In the hands of someone who knows what they're doing more than the assailant, it would be an effective way to gain control/submission. The point is blunt and round but quite narrow, so a tremendous amount of pressure comes down to it. In terms of low-keyness, I'd rank this better than the S&W or UZI pens, mostly because of the brand name - the script on the clip looks similar to any other pen brand. If I was a security guard and found this in someones pocket, I would definitely question it; most pens aren't this heavy and pointed at the end and kept in someone's pocket for no apparent reason. If it was in a purse, backpack or briefcase, it would go unnoticed in most cases, maybe even at the airport.

I bought this writing utensil and have carried it everyday since. A couple specific features I was looking for was a brand name without a weapon connotation (like S&W, M&P, Uzi). With SCHRADE printed on the clip, I wear it in a weak side pant pocket or chest pocket and have never got questioned about it being anything more then just a pen. I've walked in casinos and concerts and have not been asked about it's purpose. I would not risk taking it through airport security although I have seen people succeed. The other feature I was looking for was a screw on top.I wanted it to be secure but I have found that not to be the case, in fact, sometimes the cap gets unscrewed and falls deeper into my pocket. I have tried o-rings and tape to make threads thicker but have not found a good solution other to just really screw it closed tightly. It's solid construction makes it a bit heavy in a shirt pocket but would serve as a solid defensive tool. It writes decently and I end up using it every day. The ink cartridges can be replaced easily. One other concern with the design is the cap can be forcefully stuck on the pointed tip of the utensil but always eventually falls off.There is not much of a solution to fix this but I just put the cap in my pocket or secure location. I would recommend this pen as a EDC tool.

One of the tactical pen's main function should be to be low key. Not to be noticable as a weapon. It would appear that most tactical pens somehow fail in this fundamental task. This pen is one of the more rarer pens that do meet that first requirement. The pen is rather elegant in a very simple way and writes rather well. It's not the holy grail of writing master pieces, but it writes better than the cheap pens that most of us use. The cap presses to the back of the pen when writing without any issue. It is heavier than your standard pen and you feel the weightiness of the pen as you write, however it is not really a burden on your hand as you write. On the actual tactical side of the pen, the pen falls a bit short for me. The point of the pen is not as sharp and will not pierce. But then again that might be a plus if you were looking for something more less than lethal field. Out of the factory the pocket clip comes very tight, which required loosening as the pen is too smooth and does really provide a good grip to pull the pen out with the clip on so tight. Overall, it is a good pen. If you have more budget then I would rather recommend the Columbia River Knife and Tool TPENWK Williams Tactical Pen. It is larger, pointer, more elegant, low key, and the shape provides better grip for the draw. I think this pen only out performs in the fact that this is a screw on cap and that it is cheaper.

I've owned this ugly hunk of aluminum for half a decade. It stubbornly refuses to die, no matter how I use, misuse, and outright abuse it. I've run through at least two of the original P900 cartridges and I think a Fisher, and, while there's a bit of tip wiggle, it's an excellent writing instrument for quick jotting or dedicated note taking. It's lived in my pocket as a constant since I got it and it'll continue until it breaks--probably a decade or two before the heat death of the universe, if my math is right. Are there fancier pens than this? Yes. Are there cheaper pens with better refills than this? Also yes. What about pens that write more smoothly and comfortably? Of course. In fact, there are pens that accomplish all three. Can they survive being used to wedge a door open? Absolutely not. Can they survive being run over and still write five years later? Probably not. They're an unglamorous, permanent (provided you don't lose the thing) solution to the problem of writing utensils. I love mine and the only reason I won't buy another is I'll probably never need or want to. They look much cooler when they have love marks and wear scars, anyway. Cannot recommend enough. Go grab one. If you want to be extra spicy, swap the Schmidt P900 with an Easyflow 9000. Much smoother and better writing experience.

This is a well made tool. Emphasis on tool It is light weight, writes fine and is durable. I wanted a non lethal option as certain situations won't justify lethal options. I have had no problem with the clip or cap. It is coated but will fade over time and wear. It is obscure so it doesn't draw attention either. I bought this as it is dull enough to jab someone without puncturing but sharp enough to break a window. I did not like other options as the point on others with window breakers creates a stab risk. That means close contact with blood. And anything with a sharp enough point could be considered lethal. It also has a flat back that allows the thumb to go over and place to drive the pen. Many are pointed on both and you won't get the power behind or risk hurting yourself. Remember this is a tool to be used in defence. The pen itself is a bonus and secondary Don't play with the cap constantly and you won't risk it coming loose. There is no reason to use this as a daily use pen. It should be for emergency use or if you forgot a pen and needed one. You can train with it as well and highly recommend doing so.

I carry this daily and haven't had to use it so far for it's other intended use aside from writing. But there are a few things I should let others know about this pen before they commit to a purchase decision. -The ink cartridge it comes with is fairly poor. It leads for sloppy writing and makes the pen write like a cheap bic pen. I replaced it with a fine tip ink cartridge and it's much better this way. -I've tested the pen for actual combat application and the pocket clip is very painful when grasped in the hand and used to strike. The pocket clip is bent outward in such a way that it makes it easier to slide into a pocket, however the outwardly bent clip will bang against your fingers or hand very hard if you hit something in a forceful way. It's possible the clip might even gouge into the skin and cause a gash when you strike. This is a fairly bad design for combat application if you ever are forced to use it in an emergency like a kubaton. I will probably remove the clip (The clip uses non standard head screws). Other than that it's pretty much what you would expect. Not cheap or garbage by any stretch but what I consider to be fairly average. When I look at other tactical pens the pocket clip is not bent outward and wont gouge into the skin like the Shrade. Had I known this I probably would have bought a different brand.

Very nice pen. I had some Parker refills awaiting it as some of the other reviewers suggested and the pen writes wonderfully. I will order a pack of gel refills and just see how those write but the standard refills work fine so far. It is a solid feeling pen with a nice weight to it. The clip is very solid and it will not slip out of your pocket with this clip. I have not had the occasion to use it in a self-defense situation as yet and hope I don't have to. That being said, this is a solid pen and when the cap is appropriately closed it could be quite the impact instrument, assist in joint locks if that is your thing and it certainly could break fingers when those are locked and torqued. I am happy with this purchase and happy in the knowledge that I have a very nice writing instrument that can double as a very solid 'kubotan' in a pinch. I am not in the least disappointed with this purchase. Nice job Schrade. Price was not prohibitive and for less than some other pens I had this in my pocket within a week. Is it the 'best'? That is a matter of opinion and personal choice. Will it do the jobs it is designed for, definitely.

Rugged, solid, nice fit and finish - everything I was looking for in a tactical pen. Threads are good, clip is solid, writes well. Best of all, it doesn't look particularly weaponized, which is why I selected this particular pen.

Zunächst wollte ich mir einen anderen Tactical Pen (TP) bestellen. Jetzt im Nachhinein bin ich froh, dass dieser nicht mehr auf Lager war und ich so den Schrade (zweite Wahl) bestellt habe. Zu Beginn, ich habe schon den wohl bekanntesten und meist verkauften Tactical Pen von Böker Plus besessen. Habe diesen vor längerer Zeit aber verloren und nun wollte ich einen hochwertigeren, aber auch schlichteren "Kulli". Der Schrade kommt in einer äußerst schlichten Verpackung, quasi nur von einer Schachtel ummantel. Mir gefällt das, denn je weniger Müll, desto besser. Er ist leichter als der Böker Plus TP und das ist für das schreiben, wofür ich ihn hauptsächlich verwenden werde, ein großer Vorteil. Er ist unauffälliger, und liegt deutlich besser in der Hand. Besonders dem Fehlen eines Glasbrechers am Kopf des Deckels ist das zu verdanken, denn nur durch ein Auflgen des Daumens erhält man die Stabilität. Das macht ihn wirklich auch erst als TP nutzbar und so werde ich ihn im Training der Selbstverteidigung auch benutzen können. Es ist einfach ein sehr eleganter Stift mit einem gut verarbeiteten Schraubgewinde der den Stift sicher verschließt und in Büro und co. nicht als "Kampfwerkzeug" verurteilt wird. Die mitgelieferte interne Mine ist schwarz und soweit in Ordnung, doch werde ich mir wohl eine FisherSpace Mine dazu holen, einfach weil sie auch schräg und über Kopf schreiben kann. PS: -Der Deckel ist nicht zum hinten Aufstecken gedacht (wackelt also lose umher) -Tactical Pen enthält das Wort Taktik. Das bedeutet ohne das Wissen und Können sich mit einen TP zu verteigen, mag er zwar immer moch ein Gefühl von Sicherheit geben, aber eben nicht die Fähigkeit damit im Ernstfall sich effektiv verteigen zu können

For some reason, other tac pens out there all look like alien anal probe devices. This one is nice and simple. Works as a regular pen too. Every time I lose it (or get one taken away at the airport), I buy it again.

Pen is exactly as described and good for low profile. Feels comfortable and can write clearly. Not bad on pricing but could be a little cheaper by a few dollars.
