The Man Can Do No Wrong...Eclectic Genius
I'll keep this short because many of the reviews have covered everything in this wonderful collection. I loved both CD's and I hope that Robert does another big collection of B-Sides, obscurities, live acts and covers soon. His versatility, vocal range, and ability to take songs and make them his own never cease to amaze me. I am so glad that he didn't become a chartered accountant.Secondly, his liner notes were very well written and informative...but what else can we expect from the brilliant and witty Mr. Plant? My only quibble was that the print was too small for my aging eyes to read...I used my reading glasses of course but even had to add the magnifier I use for jewelry making to decipher the print. To the moaners that were disappointed...I take it that you did not read what was actually in this set before going ahead with your purchases. We were told exactly what we were getting, so I really don't understand the whines. It's all great. The last thing I will add is that Robert is a fantastic resource for those of us who are constantly looking to broaden our musical horizons. In his work, in his commentary during shows, and in his interviews, he never fails to talk about other artists that he has listened to and loved. The man has great taste and has never steered me wrong. Thank you, Robert.

Timbuktu
Robert Plant is one of the great voices of music.Famous beyond words at 19 with Led Zep this lovely double CD shows Robert's career before and after Zep showing that his great musicianship and vocal delivery is pure class and quality. Robert has always moved forward as he has continued to prove with his albums since release of this anthology with his collaborations with Alison Krause and Band of Joy veering interestingly into country music. Robert excels with hard blues song that feature here and his version of classic "Hey Joe" is a real lung burster that makes you tingle. The live cut from Festival of the Desert is so good you can almost picture yourself there sitting atop a sand dune in the early morning as the Tuareg mill about. There is so much range and depth on this great CD. If you are a Plant/Zep fans you have to have this in your collection. Robert is a progressive musician always worth catching, always changing direction, always playing with high quality artists. This collection gives a proper perspective on a national treasure fully deserving of our love and respect. Highly recommended!

Mix of Multiple Music Elements
This Robert Plant music collection titled Sixty Six To Timbuktu has a mix of standard classic rock tunes with subtle folk rock hints (for instance tracks 4 Tall Cool One and Track 7 29 Palms), emotional ballad songs (Track 9 Sea of Love and Track 15 Heaven Knows), and bluesy type of songs on cd two. This collection is ideal for eclectic music listeners.

I enjoyed it , but don't think it's as creative as some of the shape shifters cds. More rock than emotion.

A GREAT compilation album
I was a late starter with Plant and Led Zeppelin and bought his solo album Band Of Joy, which kick started the Process. Sixty six to Timbuktu contains an amazing array of tunes and I listen to it om IPad on my PC, in the car and anywhere else one could listen to music. I have a lot of catching up to do and have already started buying his other albums.

Great compilation of best and rare tracks.
A great compilation of some of Plant's best and popular songs; alongside early and more rare tracks. Better than a Greatest Hits compilation, with more depth and variety. Thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying, would strongly recommend.

Get this for CD2!
The first CD is Robert's selection of the hughlights of his solo albums and it seems he prefers the later ones as only Big Log appears from the first three, which is a shame as there were other quality songs on those LPs. There is also The Honetdrippers' Sea of Love which may have been Robert's biggest post Zep hit. CD1 leans heavily on Now and Zen, Fate of Nations and Dreamland the latter two being Robert's best solo albums. There is one previously unissued song Upside Down but the first CD, while having some great music, doesn't grab you as much as the second. The second Cd is a collection of rare recordings from Robert's pre Led Zeppelin career with bands such as Listen and Band of Joy as well as Alexis Koerner. These are interseting in that apart from the blues he sings with Koerner's band these songs are probably more akin to what he was trying to do with Priory of Brionand Strange Sensation. The remainder of the CD is made up of B sides and rare or previously unreleased collaborations. These songs show the breadth of Robert's musical interests, including some covers of songs from his favourite late sixties psychadelic period. His vocal over Jools Holland's piano on "Let the Boogie Woogie Roll" is as reminiscent of The Honeydrippers. The CD ends with a live version of Win My Train Fare Home from the Festival in the Desert and this proves a great way to close.Additional material comes in the form of the videios for darkness Darkness and Calling to You, and a little booklet full of photographs and liner notes written by the man himself. Ultimately this collection, especially CD2, shows that Robert Plant may have done his best work in Led Zeppelin but what followed was worthwhile. I look forward to his next studio album.

Excellent Package of Material
Robert Plant's timing of the release of this material may have something to do with the success of the Zep DVD, but hey...why not...especially when the music is this good. Songs from his latest DREAMLAND album, along with all his solo earlier works on disc One. Disc Two is the real revelation though - some early sixties and seventies stuff he did when finding his feet and before Zep. That distinctive voice shines through on all of the songs, and the blues influence is clear to see. An excellent collection - very highly recommended.
