Question 1

"8-cup (1.5 liter/40 ounce) brew capacity"  These are not equivalent.  8 cups is 64 oz or 1.89 liter. Furthermore, the reservoir shows 1.2 L. ???

No coffee brewers are based on 8 ounce cups.  Every manufacturer is slightly different but coffee "cup" sizes for coffeemakers generally range from 4.25 to 5 ounces depending upon brand.  1.2 liters is about 40 ounces making each cup 5 ounces.  You will find this range true for every brand so it's best to look at the specs for ounces rather than cups.  The standard 8 ounce cup is not an international measuring standard and certainly when it comes to coffee cup sizes.

Question 2

Is the actual heating element/chamber stainless/copper?  All I see is hype about the stainless reservoir.

Hi KrustyCow,   Great question.    The Brazen Plus heats the water in a different fashion than the majority of consumer drip coffee makers.   The Brazen Plus heats the water in the Stainless steel reservoir.  The heating element is under the stainless steel reservoir and does not come in contact with the water, just the stainless steel reservoir.    Most drip coffee makers utilize an aluminum heater that the water flows through.   One brand uses a copper heater.     Thanks    Todd, Behmor

If I wanted to use filters in the basket, which ones should I purchase?

I had trouble with regular mass market filters being a bit too tall, which led to folding and grounds in the brewed coffee.  I finally found the Connaisseur Rocklin 8-12 cup filters (here on Amazon) and they are fantastic.  Not a single spill over in a year.

Question 4

A 2nd question...do I need to heat up the carafe prior to brewing. W/The Bonavita that was required in order to have hot coffee.

It helps just a few degrees. We used to think it made a larger difference but it's not huge. If your house gets cold overnight the carafe will too so a rinse with hot tap water is good to do. But the brewer will produce hot coffee and preheating the carafe adds a little to keep it that way.
