Question 1

The listing repeatedly says this is 3.2, but the housing has 3.1 printed on it.  Is this a 3.1 or 3.2?

Short Answer:  USB 3.1 Gen 2 (listed in the technical specs of the "product description") has the same bandwidth (10 Gbps) as USB 3.2 Gen 2 (listed in the adds title).  The computer industry changed the naming convention.

Long Answer: I was confused by this as well.  If my quick research is correct apparently there is something called USB-IF (Universal Serial Bus Implementers Forum) that is causing a ton of confusion because they keep redoing the naming convention as technology changes (whoever keeps changing the convention should be fired for how much confusion they have caused).  Anyway a USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.2 Gen1 or SuperSpeed USB port all have a max speed rating of 5 Gbps.  Similarly, a USB 3.1 Gen2, USB 3.2 Gen2 or SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps port all have a max speed rating of 10Gbps.  And just to finish the ratings, a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 or SuperSpeed USB 20Gbps port both have a max speed rating of 20Gbps. So, basically, regardless of whether they call the port 3.0, 3.1 or 3.2, if they call it Gen 1 it is 5Gbps, if they call it Gen 2 it is 10Gbps, and if they call it Gen 2x2 it is 20Gbps.  If you look at the technical specs in the "Product Description" section it states that it is USB 3.1 Gen 2, which has the same 10 Gbps speed rating as the USB 3.2 Gen 2 which is listed in the title.  So, although confusing, the add is technically not contradicting itself.  That is, as long as the USB 3.1 printed on the device is meant to be USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) and NOT USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps).  Clear as mud, right!

Question 2

Can anyone verify it will work with a Raspberry Pi 4 as a boot drive?

Question 3

Is this 10gbps or 20gbps?

It uses a JMicron JMS583.  From the JMicron documentation:
"The JMS583 is a USB 3.1 Gen 2 to PCIe Gen3 x 2 bridge controller between USB host and PCIe storage device. The USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface offers data transfer speed up to 10Gbps..."

Keep in mind that 8 bits = 1 Byte:
10Gbps = 1.25GBps

From looking at other Amazon listings, the JMicron JMS583 controller seems to be the most common.

Question 4

Item is listed as usb 3.2 (20gbps) but manufacturer's website says usb 3.1 (10gbps). am i missing something or item completely misrepresented?
