General Tools Drill Grinding Attachment #825 - Drill Accessories - For use with ANSI, OSHA, and UL

I requested a replacement and got it in a few days. I have yet to send the incomplete one back, because Kohls and any other non-essential businesses have been shut down due to Covid-19 outbreak again. It takes a little doing to set this up. I first tried it on the face of my 8" grinder with poor results. Problem with setting up on the face are: If to high, you will grind the heel too much. If too low you will grind the point too much. If you are going to grind different sizes of drill bits you will be constantly trying to adjust the height to be exactly at the center of the wheel. I then tried mounting this tool to the side of the 8" grinding wheel and got really good results. Just be careful to grind very small amounts so you are not putting much pressure on the side of the grinding wheel and this will also keep the temperature of the drill bit low so you do not change the temper. I have had no noticeable grooves in the side of my wheel and I am getting nice sharp drill bits. Always, Always wear a face shield and protecting eye glasses just incase.

It works as described. No real directions to speak of but if you are the type of person that’s in the market for a drill bit sharpener than I suppose you could figure this out no problem. It took me about 1 1/2 beers to install it on my bench next to the grinder and another 1 beer to figure out how it works. It works great by the way. I sharpened about 10 bits from small up to about 5/8” or so. Easy to adjust and if you use just a tad bit of Common Sense anybody can figure it out. Great buy

Works good. However you must attach this to a bench grinder that is on a bench-top with the grinder set back a bit from the edge of the bench top. Could not mount it when the grinder was on a post stand

This drill bit sharpening tool is intended for the hobbyist who has the need to sharpen a few bits occasionally. One major problem is you have to use a bench grinder and mount both to a solid surface at different heights. It functions pretty well but takes some experimenting to get it right. It will sharpen a bit correctly. It's not recommended for very small bits.

I'm very happy with this attachment. For the price it works great! If I had any criticism it would be the setup directions. What helped me was when I realized that for it to work correctly for me, the installed drills grinding position (where the drill tip will contact the wheel) must be intersect with the grinding wheels vertical position (90 degreeses from the attachnents mounting surface) And the guide for the drill tip possition be exactly as noted in the provided instructions. I did have some issues with the attachment when I first unpacked it, but was very pleased with the responce from the Generial Tools technical support team. Unless your willing to spent a lot more money, this is a great tool addition for a hobby work shop.

Easy set up . Practiced on a couple of cheap bits to learn. Within ten minutes I was sharpening $100 bits. Works great. I had hundreds of bits thrown aside because no one around sharpened them. I have plenty now and they look and work as a new one.

This sharpener works great! You have to spend a little time working on aligning the cutting edge of the bit against the sharpener but once you figure out how to get the indexing right on that aspect you can quickly mount and sharpen your bits. The handle and wing nut in the photo are purchased off Amazon M-12 bolt and handle with M-12 wing nut. The slot is a little smaller than 12mm but I just filed it out a bit to accept the 12mm bolt a 10 mm prob fit a little loose but no filing. Make sure your mount is solid and squared up to your sharpener.

I set mine up on a belt grinder. Throw away the included instructions which are useless and incorrect. This grinding attachment was originally sold by Snap-On Tools and you would be well advised to find those instructions for proper set up. I found them from pictures of the inside of the box. Or look up a few online videos. Works great all the way down to 3/16" bits. I wouldn't bother with smaller sizes as they are inexpensive to replace.

Simple to use..saves me a lot of money replacing worn bits..

Does a good job, but bit fiddly to set up. Replaced couple of the adjustment screws with hand screw adjusters, as this makes setting different drill size bits much quicker and more accurate. Once set up properly to grindstone it works very well. Take your time getting the angles right and practice with a couple of old drills and results will be good. Did a lot of blunt drills, which now cut really well, set the cut angle to shallow cut for hard metals, excellent results through thick steel.
