I don't think it would compare to a standard grit. It feels relatively smooth to the touch, but does give a wonderfully fine edge to a blade. It's a bit like using a fine whetstone.

It says black ceramic rod with latex core what does it really mean? is it a solid ceramic rod or a latex shaft is coated with ceramic?

Whilst I do not know the construction I can say that it is a very solid and strong item!
