It works and doesn’t scare the dog!
Good price - cheaper than hunting round for replacement bulb for old fly killer too. Used to use a zappy fly killer but our dog hated the noise. This is effective- haven’t attached to wall yet so I’ve had the ‘pleasure’ of being able to see all the critters it’s caught already. Ugh - it loves big fat moths for certain and lots of other casualties too

Not a zapper
Firstly this is not a zapper, it does not have an electrical grid to fry the flies. You miss out on the satisfaction of hearing the crack of the annoying buzzing fly as it is electrocuted, for some the lack of the zap could be a benefit. This unit which is much better looking in the home than a caged zapper works by using the blue light to attract the flies which then get stuck on the sticky paper. What I don't like about the sticky paper is that when the flies stick to it they carry on with their frantic buzzing for some time, it is not an instant dispatch like a zapper. The sticky papers also need replacing after a while and whilst there are several provided, I am not sure if they are freely available. They are also disgusting to change. The other issue is that this fly trap uses an unusual CFC bulb (G23?) to attract the flies and I have found that this type of bulb does not last long before in constant use before it starts flickering and needs replacing. I have not seen any sign of this issue with this unit, but it is a common issue with CFC bulbs. This particular bulb costs around £15 to replace.

An OK idea but it's trap with a slow kill (and buzzy insects might be noisy for a while)
I ordered this to try out as an alternative to the zapper type device as we do get quite a few annoying bugs flying around.I wanted to try this out just placing on a shelf before deciding where exactly to install it.It is important to note that this has a UV lamp but 'kills' the flying bugs by using an extra sticky mat inside that the bugs get stuck to and then die (quite slowly whilst they keep trying to release themselves). After only 5-10 minutes it had caught a few small bugs and a larger fly. The fly was still alive and was moving for at least 30 minutes after. It felt a bit cruel really so I eventually put it out of its misery manually!Whilst it does work, I definitely prefer the quick zap and die method! The light looks OK but I would imagine if left for a while it would be gathering loads of bugs and look a mess. It comes with 5 of these sticky mats, after which you would need to buy more. Some flies can be quite noisy so I would imagine one of those being caught in the trap could be noisy for hours, which we would find even more annoying!I'm happy to have tried out this idea but due to it not being very quick to kill and having to replace the mats I'm not very impressed with it. I will keep and may be use it to catch a place with loads of bugs in a room that we're not using, maybe the garage or something until it runs out of mats / the bulb goes.Thank you but I wouldn't recommend this to others mainly due to the slow kill + having to replace sticky mats.

Expensive, for limited effectiveness
This is a large bulky unit that MUST be wall mounted and within reach of power (unless you extend the cable). There's nothing 'electronic' aboutthis in terms of killing insects otherthan electricty powers the bulb. There's no zapping of bugs or insects etc.Control is by placing a half-moon sheet of sticky yellow card. This is placed loose on a ledge within the unit. Nothing secures it in place. The plastic construction is flimsy and fragile so I do not expect this to last long.I'm using this because it was sent to me for free to review, but, I would NOT buy one nor would I recommend buying it. It's too much money for something so basic using sticky sheets.

works perfectly even kills moths
We live very close to open water and we see a lot oif flies and midges this time off year and nothing has worked until now ,We installed this into our conservatory whey they tend to get in and the first night it caught around 50 and the second almost treble you recieve the main unit wich is very atractivly designed and 5 sets off trapping pads the uv light attracks the insects and then they get caught and killed on the yellow pads wich you simply remove then dispose off before fitting another simply perfect very highly recomended

Works well
This bug catcher is quite stylish, unlike many others, and doesn't look out of place in the home. It is not a "zapper", instead it uses ultra violet light to attract the bugs inside and then they become trapped on a yellow sticky pad. The pad just sits on a shelf inside the light unit. It comes with fittings to attach it to the wall, a 2 metre power cord and 5 sticky pads. These can easily be swapped out when full as the front of the light can be lifted allowing easy access. 5 replacement pads cost £10 (£2 each) which isn't too expensive.

Silent and subtle. Works really well.
This is a far more subtle way to control flying pests that the 'regular' fly zappers, as there's less of a firework display when something is caught, which seems nicer to my mind. The UV light attracts them to their sticky doom, where they become stuck and expire, quietly away from view. The sticky pads are extremely sticky and have lots of room - so seem to last for weeks, depending on how much they catch.Calling this a 'zapper' is wrong though, as there isn't anything that 'zaps' at all - it's a light and a sticky trap. Make sure that you have access to someone who's not squeamish, when it comes to replacing the sticky boards though as it can be a little grim! The unit is nicely made though and looks good - better than a zapper in my opinion.
