Prym Crochet Hook P, Size P (15mm)

These are my go to hooks. Since I started using them I don’t like anything else. They are so easy to hold and to work. They fit my hand the best. I have RA so I have tried sooooo many hooks that I couldn’t hold or for long. These hooks cause minimal strain on my hands and allow me to keep at projects for much longer. The only issue I have had is that after using them for a while they get grabby. Since they are made of a composite instead of metal the yarn seems to make them rough after a while of using and they aren’t as slick anymore. They are a little rough to use then. But that happens after ALOT of use, not just a project or two. So I feel as though they hold up very well for what they are. I do wish they were a little less expensive. I have actually been getting them cheaper in stores with coupons lately.

The Prym size J/6 mm is my go-to hook for worsted-weight (4) yarn. It works for every kind of stitch and isn't too big or too small. Prym hooks are my favorites; first of all, because they're in-lines, which I find easiest to crochet with. Second, I use a knife grip, and the handles are ideal for that. The plastic isn't as "slide-y" as metal, but for me, that's fine; too slippery, and it gets away from me. This is because I do not crochet by holding the yarn still and letting the hook do all the work; instead, I do a combination of "throw" (yarn over) with my yarn hand and slipping the hook under and around the loops with my hook hand. The smooth plastic is perfect for that, as it holds my work in place better than metal would. It all comes down to a matter of preference, and my preference is Prym!

I love these hooks. So comfortable, good quality and value for money. I love that it's easy to use and slides through the loops like a knife through butter. If you prefer a more pointed hook, you will love these. I work with a lot of black yarn, as pictured, and these being white make it a lot easier to see what you're doing. Also, I like the pretty colour coding for the sizes. Pink for 4 mm/G, brown for 5 mm/H, etc. I have a 4 mm and a 5 mm so far, but shall be ordering more sizes in the future.

I was surprised at this hook. I thought coming from Prym it would be one of the best hooks ever. I don't really like it for most crochet projects. It is coated with something like white plastic which makes it stick to most yarns. The drag is very annoying and causes the yarn to split sometimes so you get an incomplete stitch with a ply not passing through the loop getting caught. The hook also has a narrower opening than most making it a little hard to catch the yarn for a yarn over. The hook comes to a bit of a point which is actually helpful when crocheting with small or tight stiches. When I run into a spot of tight crochet I immediately select this hook but I avoid it for most crochet. The padded handle is very comfortable but the shank of the hook is somewhat flexible which is distracting. I keep expecting the tip to break off but it just flexes. The hook size is not marked on it either so it is easy to forget what size it is. I will not buy this brand again.

Good value for price. It is not super sturdy but I like that it is one piece due to my others breaking where the hook and handle are joined. Still looking for the perfect hook though.

One of the best hooks I own

I loved the length of the shaft and and the sharp tip of the hook, they both made things easier. However, the glide was not there. I felt a tug on the yarn and not a smooth glide as I'd hoped. I will add this to the jar of hooks that did not work out and stick with metal.
