Absolutely awful
In the past I've jury rigged new work round boxes for old work purposes, similarly to the way this box is laid out, but whereas my box worked out, this is almost impossible to use. The screws which I'm guessing are supposed to be self drilling are so short that even if you're right on the stud, you'll only get something like a 1/4 to 1/8 " of embedment. Additionally, the screws are set so deep in the box, that the box wants to slide in behind the wall. I'd advise staying away from this and either using the more expensive boxes with the flaps or go through the rather laborious process of making your own.

I use different screws
The screws that come with the Smart Box appear to be 1 5/8” long, dry wall screws with fine thread. I have found that installs are easier, but still secure, when I use coarse thread screws. This is probably because the screws are installed at a 45-degree angle. Fine thread screws work better when they are installed at a 90-degree angle to the surface.

Worked perfectly
I was replacing a light fixture in my hallway and I noticed the original 1975 version of the box was no longer attached to a stud. I only had a 5 inch hole in the wall to work with and had no idea how to reattach short of crawling through a small crawlspace in the ceiling. I saw this product and decided I have nothing to lose. It worked perfectly. One thing I would like to point out is before you install it make sure you run the screws back-and-forth before attaching it to the stud. It was very sturdy and roomy and I now have my light in the hallway knowing it is done properly. I am in no way an electrician But I get by and this was definitely a lifesaver.

Great solution for old work projects
Great product. I was able to attach it to a wood joint in ceiling. Also it has 2 screws to attach light fixture. It has enough space for wires. It is a great solution for "old work" projects. In my case I used it to relocate ceiling lamp in kitchen.

Heavy duty--industrial strength
This ceiling box is much sturdier than the plastic ones you find at HD or Lowe's. And the screws that come with it are much better for mounting than nails. A great purchase!

A great ceiling or wall light fixture box for new or old construction.
Smart Boxes are one of the greatest innovations in electrical junction boxes in the last 20 years.Great design, stronger construction and easy to use. Hint - drill out the cable entries where needed.Hint - Run the screws into the body and spin them to loosen the plastic hole before installing it. Best tool to use in an impact driver with a long Phillips driver bit. This version is not for hanging fans. Look for the heaviest version for fans.

Easy to purchase
Since the local large company didn't have any and didn't know when any would come in...good for my needs.

Exactly what I needed
This old work box was exactly what I needed. With the help of some YouTube videos, I was able to do this job myself.
