Q: my 2001 polaris sportsman 500 HO now sputters on acceleration with this carb. Doesn't appear to have air/fuel adjustment so whats left?

How many miles? If backfires no power and your between 3,000-5,000 miles check cam shaft

Yes it does but was too big for Polaris 500

Q: Will this work on 500 2x4

Yes for a 500 H.O. the 500 H.O. runs a 40 mm carb the regular or older 500's run a 34mm carb

Q: What is your experience with it on an 01 sportsman 500 HO?

Not very good. Seems to be a problem with Float.
