Love it and I'm happy I have it!
I chose this for a few reasons, despite the lack of information and reviews available when I purchased this. I wanted something light enough that wouldn't require a crane to pick up, had a relatively small footprint for my benchtop, and was easy to adjust. This checked all the boxes and I went with my gut on getting this, despite the lack of information and reviews. Woodtek is the house brand of Woodworker's Supply (woodworker.com). There are many concerns with many regarding the 1/2 HP and whether it is sufficient for a bench-top power tool. However, I've found this to be absolutely not true if one is using a sharp and quality chisel/bit combo along with a proper drilling technique. I've made several 3/8", 1/2", and 5/8" mortises into 8/4 walnut, white oak, cherry, and maple without any issues and feeling like I needed more power. The complainers are probably sponsored by Powermatic. This machine was very simple to put together out of the box (maybe 20 minutes at the most), but required some adjustments. I'm not a fan of the fence, this could be better much better. Mine wasn't flush with the table and still isn't after some adjustments, however it was easy to make square, which was more important to me. The depth adjustment is primitive, but easy to adjust. It uses a simple rod on the machine that corresponds to your desired depth - nothing fancy, but effective. Like most things in woodworking, the time is in the setup. After that, it performs the function beautifully and serves my needs perfectly. No, it's not a Powermatic, but it's also smaller, weighs FAR less, and fits my shop perfectly. It should also be noted that this DID NOT come with any chisels/bits. In general, I think this is a good thing. I would rather save the money for purchasing quality mortising chisels/bits, which will help with the quality of your work and the effectiveness of a tool such as this.
