Modern Architecture Since 1900 [Curtis, William J R] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Modern Architecture Since 1900 Review: Great customer service Review: Ridiculously good - This is the best survey/textbook level treatment of any subject that I have ever seen. Curtis strikes a great balance between writing a good general survey and having a strong point of view. It makes me hope for a new edition just to have the author’s take on more recent developments. The truly global coverage, the choice of illustrations, the connections drawn across works and eras, it’s just ridiculously good and far better than anything else available. Curtis has more than encyclopedic knowledge; he “gets” architecture. He doesn’t seem able to write anything pedestrian or uninteresting. Buy this if you’re interested at all in architecture or buy it for someone who is.

Beautiful and Well-Written
This book is incredible. It is the most definitive statement on Modern Architecture out there. It seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of modernist construction and aesthetic without oversimplifying or categorizing the work of individual artist/architects and specific locales into sweeping, generalizable trends. It fully succeeds. Curtis is balanced and nuanced in his critical analysis of the buildings presented. His dense prose is intelligent and insightful. The photographs are beautifully composed and complement the text. I highly recommend this book.

... this for a history of architecture class and actually enjoyed reading it
Purchased this for a history of architecture class and actually enjoyed reading it. It is very well written and in a language that is easy to read. I had previously had it on my wish list and I'm happy to say that it truly is a good read. It's a bit on the clunky side, but that can be easily overlooked.

Thorough and dense.
I am enjoying this history/analysis but it is slow read ... taking it bit by bit and have a ways to go as I am just at Gropius and the International influence of the '20s.

Legendary Book
Use- bought it for my friend. She loves it. She is an architect. Like- good pages, nice print, good purchase Dislike- the last 2 pages were kind of worn off but overall. It is a good product.

Hate to love it
I had to purchase this book as my required textbook for a Modernism class. Needless to say, when the quarter is over, this book is not getting resold! It's well bound, fabulous pictures, and very captivating reading. Yes, it's a textbook, but it's by Taschen and it's something to keep on your bookshelf as a handy reference, and idea generator in the future. I could go on and on...

Can see why my professors want it
Well, I need this for school and that's why I got it but it can be great to have a book in person to write and highlight in. (Its safe to say I can do that since I'll most definitely be keeping this book for a very, very long time)
