Works as expected, OEM part
Works great! Easy to install. Was a direct fit for a 2020 KTM 790 Adventure R. You still have to take it to the dealer to unlock cruise control. Have about 3k miles on the bike since installing it.

OEM part, easy installation, works perfect.
Please be aware this accessory requires activation via software code and diagnostic tool from an authorized KTM service center. Installing the part without software activation will not enable the cruise control function. I purchased this to install on a KTM 790 Adventure R. I believe this the same part for other KTM models also, so your installation experience may vary. On my bike the install was straightforward since the bike is pre wired. I will skip any details of the instructions since there are several good videos available on youtube. You can do the job with the tools in your KTM toolkit, but a ratchet with a set of torx bits, and 5mm hex are handy. Removing the original grip and swapping the control housing was easy and about a 10 minute job, including removing/reinstalling the handguard. Routing the wiring to the connectors in the loom is the more challenging part of the installation. The entire headlight/instrument unit needs to be removed to access the connectors, don't mess around trying to get there from the front of the headlight, there's no shortcut. Getting the headlight/instrument housing off to access the wiring harness is simple and I had no trouble identifying and swapping over all the connectors. If you are intimidated after watching videos of this install, I assure you it's not complicated and there's no way to connect anything incorrectly. The most challenging part of the job was returning the bundled up wiring harness to the inside of the housing. Again, not diffult and no chance of messing anything up, but patience and a reasonable amount of jiggling are required. You can have the part installed and activated by your KTM sevice center, or you can have them activate the software and install the part yourself. If installing at home after the software has been activated at your dealer, here are the steps to calibrate the unit: Once activated without switch installed, software causes cruise controll icon on instrument panel to flash when ignition is on. Install switch on handlebar and connect all wiring. Turn on Ignition, do not activate throttle. Push cruise controll switch LEFT for 3 seconds, UP for three seconds, DOWN for thee seconds. Turn throttle tube forward (towards front of bike) from normal CLOSED position for three seconds. Shame on KTM for charging extra to enable the software on top of charging so much more for this switch which only has one more function than the original. Overall, highly recommeded for OEM quality, ease of installation and perfect function. Straighforward home garage part install for the experienced or eager mechanic.

The software cost is the real cost!
Don't think you can install this and you're good to go, you have to take it to a ktm dealer to have them install the software and they charge around $350. Absolutely ridiculous that KTM charges so much for software and capabilities that are already in the bike. I love my duke 890 but I will never buy another ktm when this company forces you to buy so many expensive software unlocks to do anything. With that said, the cruise control works and is very nice. Great quality of life improvement. If I would have known it would end up costing $450 I wouldn't have gotten it though, I don't have that kind of money laying around.
