Magnetic Holder Bed On/Off Switch Holding Power

I read some reviews that said the magnet was not very strong. I attached this to a filing cabinet (0.030" metal thickness) and could easily pull it off. I attached it to a 1/8" thick plate and could not pull it off. Magnet ratings are for straight pull off. A magnet can always be "peeled off" with lesser force. I bought this to add to a articulating arm desk lamp for a work bench. The bench top is 3/8" thick steel. It held very well. Even with the maximum cantilevered load shown in the photos it held the lamp quite well. I am glad I didn't pay attention to the reviews that said it was not strong.

This switch is a good value for money and does the job I need it to. There are more expensive options out there, but they don't seem to be much better. These are great for a lot of things, including holding awkwardly shaped tools and knives for sharpening and grinding operations, and holding measuring equipment down on surfaces like drill press tables. They are also good for cleaning up metal filings -- just pick them up with the magnet, hold the magnet over a trash can, and turn the magnet off.

It is strong if the pull direction is straight up only. I have equipment to measure the stated poundage but didn't take the time to do that. However if there's the slightest tipping of the magnet, it becomes very weak. Also,, the included T handle wouldn't screw into the threaded hole in the magnet. I had to go buy an M8x1.25 tap and ream it out. That annoyance but primarily the lack of power made me return it.

I bought two of these and surface ground them to the same height. Together on a furnace grinder magnet they work great for holding irregular shaped parts to be ground.

I got this and the mag base was beat up like it'd been dragged behind a truck, then when I placed it on steel and switched to on, it's EASILY pulled off. won't buy again. still thinking about returning as it's not what it was advertised to be.

Solid and effective. I mostly use it as a stop block on cast iron machines. Very handy

This is a fairly weak magnet and it also has a tendency to switch off by itself. it's fine as a toy and to demonstrate a cool principle but not really good for any serious work

Had bought some Magswitches for use on my table saw, but they are very expensive, so after seeing a YouTube video on making cheaper equivalents, bought some of these magnets, which turned out to be a great money-saver. These are bulky compared with the Magswitches, but that doesn't matter for my projects.

These magnetic switches are plenty strong enough to hold a fence down for woodworking. I was so impressed I purchased a second one. Another company makes similar ones but want 4x the cost. Definitely happy I went with these instead.

Not the strongest but still has a decent amount of pull on the magnets. Can be used in alternate orientations (switch facing forward or switch facing up). useful for what i needed it for, mainly holding a lamp on a steel cabinet that can also be removed and clamped to anything else that accepts a magnet. Sometimes a magnet that can be turned off has a lot of uses you wouldn't have considered before. Even just picking up nuts, bolts, swarf etc. Turn it on, pick up the stuff then turn off to drop it. For anyone not knowing what this is built like, there are no batteries. It is literally a magnet where turning the switch neutralises the magnet mechanically.

It does what it should. It is solid, and the switch works. I'm happy.

I bought this thing more as a curiosity than out of any actual need, but it does come in handy. I use it at work to keep bags attached to metal carts while I'm going though the warehouse cleaning up, and it works very well for that. It does slip occasionally, but it holds well enough as long as it's on a flat surface. I'll never stop being amazed that you can just turn the switch and the magnet turns off, though, that still feels like magic.
