Pimsleur Urdu Conversational Course - Level 1 Lessons 1-16 CD: Learn to Speak and Understand Urdu with Pimsleur Language Programs (1) Audio CD – Audiobook, March 23, 2010

I recently bought the Pimsleur Urdu language program. Without a doubt Pimsleur is the best way to learn a foreign language. I've tried several other programs and most are much more expensive and don't teach much that is useful to a beginning student. A few days into this Urdu program and I already have useful words and phrases. Don't waste your money on Rosetta Stone.

This is the second language I am learning from Pimsleur. I used their product to learn conversational modern Hebrew. Now I know Hebrew better than any other language I have ever learned. I am only getting started on Urdu, but it is fun and a good thing to occupy my mind during my long commute. The only weakness is that the course does not teach how to read or write the language.

Although I like the format of the classes, I'm giving the audio recordings only two stars because the first part of the word gets cut out when the native Urdu speakers say the words/phrases. Happens almost every time, wish this wasn't the case otherwise would rate this way higher but I know a little Hindi/Urdu and I know some critical sounds are cut off from almost every start of each word/phrase.

A nice introduction. It does differ quite a bit from the Urdu that is spoken in Pakistan. It is closer to Hindi and the Urdu that is spoken in India.

Such a good course where a normal-paced conversation is given then broken down into its meanings & syllabols then repeated over time for enhanced long-term memory. Highly recommended.

They do a great job of teaching you the material. It's really easy to remember even if you aren't good at languages.

Great way to start learning the language in 30minute snippets, with no books, so ideal for the daily commute by car..!

Good to start with.

Excellent! Was hesitant to purchase it initially, but really delighted with the program. Just half an hour a day is manageable, plus repitition of previous conversations everyday does help. Must add that with a slight knowledge of the language missing a day once in a while did not hamper my learning.Do recommend it for absolute beginners too - as indicated earlier - the program repeats vocabulary and phrases several times in every lesson. Looking forward to advancing to the next level.

Excellent introduction to spoken Urdu. Crisp. clear sound recording. As with other Pimsleur products lots of emphasis on repetition and pronunciation. Almost as good as a live personal tutor. Don't expect to expand your vocabulary very quickly, however. Must be complimented with other learning materials.
