I had a plumber install a main water line from the city water meter to under my rental house crawl space. I needed a shutoff valve so I don’t have to call the city to come turn it off and on. With this box I can now turn off my water and back on whenever I needed. I don’t know how this house went for 76 years on galvanize pipe without a manual shutoff because if there’s a leak or a pipe explode, your screwed. This box was the right size and follows city code for how deep the pipe should be. You just need a flat head screw driver or something to pop off the cover. It does allow rain water to get in so perhaps cover this with a tarp and put small dirt or gravel rocks over it?

This box is larger than expected. Latching mechanism is a bit weirdly designed, but that's not a big issue. At least people who not suppose to open it will have hard time to understand.
