Great product
Got this heater in December when it got colder for our turtle’s 65 gallon tank. It works great! We got the 100 W version (we only fill the tank about halfway with about 30 gallons). It took a while to heat the tank, but it did reach - and maintain - a comfortable temperature of 72 degrees. We confirmed this with a thermal gun and our exterior tank thermometer. You don’t have to stick to 72 either; the heater let’s you adjust it to a wide range of temperatures. You just set it and forget it. The only thing you’ll need to check on is to make sure it is fully submerged; it’s a fire hazard if the water level is below the heater (as made evident in other reviews). Our turtle absolutely loves it too. When he’s not swimming around or basking, he hovers over the heater and enjoys the heat it gives off. Great product overall.

one died after 8 years, the other still going at 12 years
These are reliable heaters. I use two for my 20 gallon aquarium along with an Inkbird ITC-306T controller. That way if one heater fails the other will keep the tank at temperature while the Inkbird protects against overheating. One of the Aqueon heaters stopped heating after 8 years while the other is still going strong after 12 years of continuous use (and the replacement after 4 years). This exceeds my expectation for aquarium heater reliability. I also appreciate the thermal shutoff feature in case for whatever reason the heater is not submerged it does not become a fire hazard.

Great value
I've had no issues with the heater itself. I live in an area where hard water is at large, this is where the problem lies. The heater can't stay clean. I clean algae and hard water deposits off it weekly. Cleaning the heater in the tank is a hassle, but an absolute must if you don't want corrosion like other reviews experienced. I have to unplug the heater pre-clean, unless I'd like to electrocute myself and the fishies, but it's hot to the touch for a such a long time that I don't even bother taking it out of the tank anymore. I just inplug and wipe off, this usually works for basic cleaning. I'm sure I'll deep clean the heater when I do the tank next, maybe once every month or so. If you're looking for a heater that works great in a 10g to 40g tank this is probably one of the most affordable and from what I've seen one of the most reliable heaters to buy. I can't really say anything negative about most Aqueon products.

Best heater in the game
This is an AMAZING product. I have owned it for roughly 2 years and it works as well as it did day 1. I have this plugged into my turtle's tank to provide heat and keep the water at a well regulated temperature. The heater runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week, excluding when I have it off for water changes and tank cleanings (basically every other week for like an hour). It works like a charm after all this time and I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. The heater is NOT hot to the touch even when it is set at 82 F.

Very good
As all the other reviews say this is very good. I got one after checking it out at a local store (petsmart). It costs about half the price here. Any who, works as advertised. Drop it into your tank (all the way). Set the temp. And forget. I was a little concerned that the 100w one wouldnt bring the tank (29gal) up to temp, its normally 60-65 in the house and I wanted the tank temp closer to 75 but one night in the tank and the little light is green now so its up to temp and good to go. Edit:Bought this in 11/2011, its now 7/2012. Working great. Upgraded to a 75 gallon tank. This still keeps the tank temperature in check even though, i think, 100w is below the recommend wattage for such a large tank. The house sits around 60-65 still. I'll update again in the winter.

UPDATE: Heater shell split open, stopped working
I purchased two of these heaters and both of them stopped working at nearly the exact same time. The outer plastic shell on the bottom of the heater split open allowing water to enter the heater. Many other people reported the exact same issue with this heater. I contacted Aqueon for warranty and they sent me new ones. One was this old model and the other was the newer model with the LED light on the adjustment knob instead of on the tube. ============ Original review: This is one of the best heaters on the market today. It's made out of aluminum, not glass, so you don't have to worry that it will shatter if you leave it plugged in when you do a water change or if you drop it. It's fully submersible, unlike the previous Aqueon heater, and has a very sleek, all-black design. Unlike other heaters which only have an indicator light that shows when it's heating, the indicator light on this heater shows red when it's heating and green when it's reached the set temperature so you will know that it's plugged in. Some other reviewers have indicated that this heater runs low. My experience also indicated that this ran low by about 4 degrees fahrenheit as indicated using a floating thermometer. However, it turned out that the thermometer was actually the one that was running low by 4 degrees! By using a calibrated digital cooking thermometer, I found that the heater was, in fact, accurate to the exact temperature set. So if you find that this runs low, check your thermometer as it's the one that is most likely running low. Aqueon states that the internal thermometer has been calibrated twice during manufacture to ensure accuracy. Included with the Pro heater are two black clips with suction cups that allows you to attach it to your aquarium. It's very secure if you use both of them. Using only one allows for the heater to rotate so use both for secure attachment. This heater was so good that I bought another. There was a problem with the second heater; the plastic covering for the indicator light was not seated properly and allowed water to enter the heater. Amazon quickly replaced the heater and it was running perfectly out of the box. This Aqueon Pro Heater is very accurate, works extremely well, and is simple to use. It's more accurate than the floating thermometers in the tanks! Dimensions from bottom to tip of the temperature dial: 50W - 9" 100W - 10.3" 150W - 13" 200W - 13" 250W - 15" Made in Italy. Limited lifetime warrantee against defects. EDIT - Here's a tip: The clip and suction cups come in two parts. Make sure the open end of clip faces down when you attach it to the tank so that debris doesn't accumulate in the crevices between the clip and suction cup.

Heater is well made and is in a sleek black colour which helps it blend in with the background of the tank. I also like the green/red light display which indicates whether the heater is on/off and if the water has reached the set temperature. Over the course of several months, the heater has worked perfectly.

Used this heater in my 20 gallon tropical aquarium. Keeps the water about 2 degrees below the setting (I have it set to 82degrees, tank is stable 80 degrees), but that's normal because my room is pretty cold. Works great, and maintains the temperature at all times. Would recommend using a thermometer to ensure you've reached desired temperature.

No shiny reflective glass and unbreakable. Keeps temp but little QA/finishing issue on the rubber dome covering the indicator light as well as a white mark. SMALL! I was afraid by looking a the 14" specs (box size?) on the website that it would be overly long like the Jagger Eheim but it's short around the 10" mark. I got the blue dial one if that matters.

This is the best heater I've had! Purchased to replace a Hydor Theo for my 20 gallons aquarium, that was no longer heating the water properly. Aqueon Pro is sturdy, light and reasonably small. It has no open glass parts which is awesome. Little red/green diode to see when it's on and when it reached the desired temperature. In my case it was perfectly calibrated. Once I set it up to 77 degrees, it reached it in about an hour and it kept it steady since then. There's about 10 degrees difference between my air temperature and the water, and it has no problems keeping it. The wire is also of a very high quality and I would expect it to last for a long time. Overall I'm impressed with this heater and would buy it again.
