Missing context, poor editing
UPDATE: See photos. Numerous incorrectly labeled figures.Having used LOTS of hematology textbooks in my academic career, I've found that this one in particular is just downright sloppy. Many of the learning objectives in the beginning of each chapter are not adequately (or at all) addressed, and many are repeated several times within the same chapter as if copied and pasted without being corrected. Many headings are inaccurate (for example, chapter 10 has a heading addressing "assessment of eosinophils and basophils," which is only a few sentences long, and only mentions two causes of eosinophilia, with no mention of basophils or basophilia)In terms of editing... I don't know that anyone DOES edit it. Mistakes galore. Incorrect formulas, misspellings, inaccuracies, and contradictory information. This unfortunately seems to be a trend with this author, as I have also used her Intro to Clinical Lab Science and Immunology books, and have seen the same types of mistakes. I used to keep track of the mistakes to send in to the author/publisher, but eventually lost count. On the publisher's end, there are several places in the book that say "Note: This is a good time to refer to online Review Questions and flash cards for this content" -- these flash cards do not exist on the publisher's resource page for the textbook. PowerPoints made available from the publisher to accompany this book are messy, often mislabeled, and full of typos.I'm curious how ASCP has added this book in particular, and many others aforementioned by this author, to their list of recommended textbooks for MLT/MLS programs, given the abundance of mistakes.Bottom line, I don't think today's students can follow along with, and benefit, from this textbook, and I'll be looking for an alternative for my next cohort.
