Question 1

In what way does your grease 88693 differ from your grease 80360? both seem to have the same product description and applications.

Accepted Answer

Thank you for your interest in Danco products. Silicone grease has a higher silicone content, making it better for a long term lubricant, such as on an O-ring that will be sliding. Waterproof grease is good as an installation aid, for inserting parts that will be making a seal and not be moving again.

Question 2

if it's food grade, why does it say keep out of reach of children?

Accepted Answer

I can't say for sure, but I would guess that although it is intended for use in water systems where it will not dissolve into the water while in use and it contains no chemicals that would get into the water, it should not be used as a lip balm, a skin cream, put in nose or ears, or eaten by children or whatever else they might try to do with it. There have been published reports of contact dermatitis to silicone: The Laryngoscope. Volume 115, Issue 10,pages 1760-1762, October 2005.Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg December 1995; vol. 113 no. 6 782-784.Ann Thorac Surg. 2009 Apr; 87(4):1275-7. Allergy to pacemaker silicone compounds: recognition and surgical management. Oprea ML, Schnöring H, Sachweh JS, Ott H, Biertz J, Vazquez-Jimenez JF.Source:Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany.Abstract:Silicone is a widely used biomaterial. Contact allergy, particularly to silicone components of pacemaker coatings, is uncommon. We present a 12-year-old girl with a history of complex congenital heart disease and acquired complete heart block excluding transvenous lead placement. Contact allergy to silicone led to multiple surgical interventions until the etiology for recurrent pacemaker wound complications was discovered. The key to diagnosis was a specific manufacturer's patch test. Complete removal of the former pacing system and placement of custom-made silicone free pacemaker components and epicardial use of silicone free transvenous leads were essential for successful therapy.

Question 3

What are ingredients, other than silicone?

Accepted Answer

I posted the Danco Material Safety Data Sheet link here and Amazon dutifully deleted it. You can search on "Danco 88693 MSDS" and see the PDF.I didn't want to have to spell the ingredients:85-95% Dimethyl Polysiloxane5-15% Silicon DioxideSo the answer to your valid question is SiO2 or "sand" or "glass"!

Question 4

Can this be applied to the o ring for the (whole house) water filter canister, I need something watertight but also I can take it apart every month.

Accepted Answer

Yes. I use this on my whole house Filter, & on my under sink filter to lubricate the rubber O rings. Works well. Unlike Vaseline or similar petroleum based lubricants, it will not dissipate and does not appear to degrade over time.
