Tipton Nylon Bore Brush

Not sure how to review a bore brush. Arrive as pictured and described works as it should.

A clean bore helps with accuracy

I don't use brass brushes any more, and I never used stainless brushes. I prefer to wrap a patch around a nylon brush, soak it with BoreTech bore cleaning solution, and pull it from chamber to muzzle using an Otis cable. BoreTech makes my favorite brushes but these Tipton brushes are nearly identical. They have plated steel wire to secure the bristles (they do not shed bristles) and the threaded tips are aluminum. The steel should never come in contact with the bore so there should be no bore damage unless you are very reckless in jamming these brushes into a bore. It would seem to be impossible to have the twisted steel wire center section to contact the bore when pulling the brush with a cable. The aluminum tip won't scratch the bore, and (this is for the big win) there is no false blue indication of copper when cleaning copper fouling out of the bore. If you use a brass brush, or a brush with a brass threaded tip, you can see phantom copper evidence from the brush so you'll never know when the copper has been cleaned from the bore. These brushes last a LONG time, so they're a good value. A good bore cleaning solution like BoreTech Eliminator does the work for you, particularly if you run a wet patch and clean the rest of the gun while it's doing its thing, and then run a couple of more wet patches and an oil patch to finish, so you should never need to work up a sweat scrubbing a bore. Most people scrub the bore too much. Less is more in this case. More bore life. More accuracy longer.

I'm a precision shooter, and barrel maintenance is critical to me for extending barrel life, as the smaller the barrel diameter, the higher velocity that is typically encountered, and the potential for shorter barrel life is a REAL issue. So, with that in mind, taking care to not be crazy aggressive with cleaning the barrel, and using proper copper removal solvents like KG-12 are essential to my maintenance/cleaning routine. Brass bore brushes are affected by any Copper Solvents that actually WORK on copper deposits in the barrel, and are more aggressive than are necessary on a high-end barrel, particularly if they have been bore-lapped either at the factory or by the shooter. These have no brass to produce false positive copper indications, and are substantial enough to work very well in the barrels that I work on.

Nylon brushes are the way to go. The brass brushes wear out way before these will. Cleaning them with brake cleaner doesn't seem to bother them

Way over priced BUT nylon bore bushes are hard to find in my area. Need to clean copper out of barrel and copper bushes don’t work for me. Nice quality. Good for rifles.

Well made brushes; strong enough to clean well but non-abrasive to rifling. I cringe when I think how much over cleaning a lot of rifle barrels are subjected to, with bronze brushes. I was certainly guilty of this in my younger days, especially in Army. We really over did the barrel brushing. I purchased 3 of these brushes, sizes .22 (using for both .22LR and 5.56mm), .25/6.5mm (perfect for my much loved 6.5 Swede) and .30-.32 (using this for .30 cal Marlin). Sizing is correct and brushes hold solvent well. Using with 1-piece Tipton cleaning rods; good match. Have used the .22 and 6.5 several times now with no noticeable wear to brush. Rifling is bright and shiny after brushing a few times and running patches through. Only wish Tipton would make chamber brushes of same material, especially for the AR chamber. Storage protection: these brushes also work well for leaving a heavier oil coating in barrel for storage; just coat brush with good protective oil (I like Ballistol for this; mineral oil formula is stable; Amazon carries it) and push through once, unscrew. Just remember to run a patch through to clean excess oil before next range day. Local gun store does not carry these so appreciate Amazon stocking.
