Can this be used to convert a ceiling fan that has pull chains into a fan that can just be controlled by the remote?

Of course it can. If your fan have pull chain switch, before using the wireless remote control, use the switch to turn the fan speed to maximum and turn the fan light on. In this way the switch and the wireless remote control can be used together.

Remote and receiver communicate with each other via radio signals.
It is possible to control multiple receivers/ceiling fans with one remote, or multiple remotes to control one ceiling fan light.
Note that if the four ceiling fans are distributed in different rooms, you need to consider the factor of signal blocking by obstacles such as walls.

I didn't find a specification for this Hunter fan, so I'm not sure. But if your ceiling fan is a 110V 3-speed AC ceiling fan, I think it is compatible with this remote control kit.
