Cheap fix
Ten minute, $20 fix for a $300 item. One day delivery. OEM cable. Extremely easy plug in installation, but you have to remove the back cover of the Speechmike (lift off the back after removing 4 tiny 000 Phillips screws; pull off the little rubber rests to access the top two screws) to unplug the old and plug in the new.

Cable shorting out
I work at a hospital that has a lot of these Speechmikes and the thing that always goes wrong with them is the cable shorts out right near the microphone. I believe it is a manufacturing defect or it's just not robust enough to handle normal use for very long. I don't know if there are any better alternatives, but I wish they would acknowledge and fix this issue.
