Would Russian piping tips fit in these spaces?

As long as the tip is UNDER 1 3/4 in tall. Most of my tips won't fit. I was very disappointed, on the other hand it does hold thimbles.

I know the description says it's for small/medium tubes, but would 4-5 large ones fit on the sides of the box if I layed them down?

No, they will not. The lid will not be able to close.
