Proper size for 32 inch waist?  Does it fit snug or loose?

I'm a 32 inch waist and i got the Medium, which turned out to be too large, because it overlaps my belly button about 2 inches, which feels uneven against my belly and causes the belt buckles going through to not meet at center. I think a good snug fit would be no overlap and about .5 inch of space in front of belly button.

5 I have a few of these i find them very comfy.It seams best to evenly support a heavy load evenly and use the suspenders or other over shoulder support.The one I had an AK double mag pouch that would hold 4 mags  on one side it worked better to put another on the other side and only have 2 in each. had an opportunity  to fully load both pouches one time and was totally amazed how with 8 AK mags it just seamed settle in a bit better on my hips the one i use for the AKmags i use suspenders and have a dump pouch on. I would have never even thought i could be that mobile with 8 loaded AK 30 round mags.I use them as a back supports mostly they seam to work best with some pouches and weight to keep them from riding up during some activities like using a chainsaw cutting fire wood.I'm able to use chainsaw longer wearing one of these even walking is easer for me so i do ware one a lot.Hope that helps some to answer

Would this work well for a handgun training course (including drawing from concealed) requiring a holster and two mag pouches?

Yes it will work with the correct holster and mag pouches, but this is a piece of load bearing equipment (LBE) designed to distribute heavy weight. It also does not come with the duty belt (sold separate). You might do better with the belt on your pants if that is all you will be carrying.
