Q: Does this have a security key on it?

Has WPA key on bottom tag. Has WPA/WPA2 wireless security. Also has Parental Control and Guest Network features.

Q: so this is both a modem and router?

Confusing. The same page sells the C3000 which is both a Modem and Router and it also sells the CM500 which is only a Cable Modem.

Q: Will this device work with Time Warner Cable?

I recently purchased this. Prior to doing so, I spoke with Time Warner Cable about its compatibility and they confirmed this was a compatible modem/router combo. All TWC networks operate at half duplex. The specs for this modem are listed at full duplex. As such, the purported 343Mbps is correct, but TWC networks will not be capable of that speed, regardless of service level.

Q: Can you disconnect the Wi-Fi on this modem? I don't see a setting to turn off the radio. Is this possible?

As with most wi-fi routers, the radio is controlled via the set-up utility. For this one log on to the router (192.168.0.1) using the default or custom user ID/password. Find "Wireless" settings and clear the click box next to "Enable Wireless Gateway Radio." Save settings. That turns off the router's radio.
