Can this device be used to test the continuity of a single conductor wire instead of a conductor pair?

I wondered about that too so I asked my son in law he's an electrician according to him you can't do it remotely but it can be done without the remote option as long as you can get to both ends of the single wire which makes this device useless in most cases because most of the wires I would want to remotely test are single wire

Hooking tester in panel box is a probl locating grnd and neg. Can you attach rem to grounding bar to test for neg and grounding wire continuity?
