Genuinely great product
I bought this as the hit nights in Dubai have always given me sleep problems. But from the first time I used this, it was simply brilliant. Easy to set up, quiet (I was expecting it to be loud) and kept me comfortable all night. Would recommend. It’s expensive (almost egregiously so) but it’s been money well spent.

OK, let me start with the surprise benefit for dads with young kids. If your kids are like mine, they sometimes crawl into bed at night to cuddle with mom. Well, after they fall asleep, they forget about mom and migrate over to the human hot rock (aka dad) to stay warm. One kid likes to lay on top of me, another likes to stick his cold hands and feet under my back to stay warm, and they both kick the covers off of both of us. Well, I observed something interesting when I started using the ChiliPad...my kids stopped using me as a hot rock. The ChiliPad makes my side of the bed cold, effectively creating a toddler force field that keeps them on mom's side. Well worth the price just for that! As for my sleep, the ChiliPad is very easy to use and does exactly as described. It only takes a few minutes to cool my side down and I'm not waking up overheated. Set up was simple and I don't feel the pad at all. It does a good job keeping my side cool without affecting my wife's side. It makes some noise but we already sleep with a fan on so we don't hear it. I have definitely seen an improvement in my sleep and have recommended it to a few friends. The only negative, considering the price, is the minimal control. I found that I initially fall asleep best at a low temp but would wake up cold around 2 am, so I keep it a few degrees warmer now. Chilipad lets you set one temperature for the entire night but does not have something as simple as a "cool only" or "heat only" mode (at least that I could find) that would allow me to cool my bed to say 58 before bed, set it to 64 when I lay down, and then let my body warm it up slowly to 64. Instead, the unit's heat kicks on and immediately warms it to 64. An adjustable timer would also be nice to turn it off about an hour before waking when the body is naturally warming up. Again, the control issue is pretty minor but I think it is reasonable to expect a bit more at this price.

I purchased the Twin XL to put on a king bed. The elastic that keeps it in place allows this - they're straps that go top to bottom on each side, so I didn't have to do anything weird to keep it in place on that side that's in the middle of the bed. This uses about 24 oz of DISTILLED water on startup, so you may as well go buy that while you're waiting for it to be delivered (and 2 AAA batteries for the remote). The Cube requires 2' of clearance on all 4 sides, which is quite a bit, unless your bed is on risers AND you're not storing large amounts of things under there. The remote does NOT need a line of sight. Wherever you put the Cube, you'll need to get to it every now and then to drop a little more water in. I've had it for almost 3 weeks, and have put maybe 3 oz total in (2 separate times). This is in the winter; I don't know if it'll be different in the summer, with more condensation and chilling. It took a few days to dial in the right temperature for me, and to get used to it. It's going to be a fairly uniform temperature the whole length of the mattress, so you may end up sticking a towel between the pad and the fitted sheet to not frost your toes too much. As other reviewers have said, it's a sound that you'll notice. I prefer to think of it as a white noise machine. It's a pretty constant sound. I've changed the way that I sleep to get the most benefit out of this - sleeping on your back or stomach will expose the most body area to the pad. I still get a hot flash a few minutes after I go to bed, but that goes away fairly quickly, and I'm not waking up many times during the night, drenched in sweat, any more - this is great. At full price, it can seem a bit costly, but I talked myself into it with "but it's worth $10 a day to sleep well, so it's paid off in less than 3 months" - but while I was talking myself into it, the price dropped, and I'm glad that I went for it. I will try to remember to update this in the summer, when it'll have a bit more work to keep the bed cool, and I'll be using different bedding. The guide mentions buying extra sachets of water conditioner, but they did not include any in the original box, and I don't see any on their website or Amazon; I'll probably look for some waterbed conditioner and put a little of that in every few months. By the way, I finally found what "ME/WE" stands for - 1 or 2 people - "me" and "we". I couldn't find that anywhere in their documentation, but figured it out while on their website. It looks like they have a new product ("ooler") that links to an app, so they may be phasing this product out.

LOVE the improved pad: the addition of a mesh side, wider mattress straps (not your standard 1 inch white elastic). Nice in/out water tubes (they are now insulated) and the connection points and release button are better than they used to be and a tool was included to snap down over connections to EASILY drain. Seems quieter than the prior ChiliPad Technologies cubes. I did notice that, almost immediately, if you held down the blue snowflake button (cube or remote) the cube went straight to Lo (I remember watching the prior cubes do a count down all through the numbers until the lowest number would result Lo). Problem: I have the cube on a side table and the tube is running parallel between pad and cube. I now sleep in a room, that I keep the door closed all night. If it's cooler outside and the a/c doesn't run the whole night because outside temp is cooler.....these are the nights the cube errors with F2 (flashing). I check room temp when I wake up hot and it's between 83 and 85 degrees. This after I easily fall asleep because the pad is cold and it's 73 degrees in the room, The cube is not going to meet my needs in non summer months when the a/c would run every now and then during the night.

This is the second one I have purchased. The first one I purchased back in 2018 and had for 5 years before I replaced it. i only replaced it because the pad had become dirty and I didn't realize at that point that it could be washed. In 2023 I purchased my second one and I have to say that the quality of this one is not as good as the first one I purchased. After 2 years, it has stopped working well. Sometimes the heat is on when I want the cooler to be on, and it is failing at this point. It does not get as cool as it once did, when the cooler does work. I paid a lot of money for this product and expected the same quality as the first one. I also expected it to last longer than 2 years for the price. When it was working well, the first two years, we were very happy with it.

First, I'm going to ignore the fact that this thing functions as a heater. There are millions of active and passive devices you can buy to keep you warm for less than what this costs, so there's no reason to be shopping for it as a heater. As a bed cooler, it works. It could work better though and that's why I can't give it 5 stars. It cools the bed really well until I get in it. But once I'm in it, it can't keep up with however many BTUs I'm putting out. If the pipes had been a tad larger, the pump a tad stronger, and the chiller a little bigger, then it would be perfect. I imagine they were trying to keep the size and the noise down. For me, the size wasn't an issue since it just goes under my nightstand. And even if it didn't fit there or under the bed, then I'd be happy to move some stuff around to make room for it, since I really want the bed kept cool. I'd imagine that others willing to spend this much on a bed chiller would also not mind making some concessions for the size. Likewise the noise isn't a problem for me beause I, and I assume if you're hot enough to buy one of these you're in the same boat, have several fans already running in the bedroom that are way louder than this. You know what I would buy if I could -- and Chili people if you're reading this feel free to comment and let me know if it's doable -- ? A second chiller, if there was some adapter that allowed the water pipes to connect the two together to either work in a series or parallel. Then you could double the cooling capacity for just the cost of the second chiller. Failing that maybe I could just take the mattress pad and hook it up to a regular pump and a reservoir inside a dorm fridge.
