Q: It gets over 100 where I live. How breathable are these to keep my dogs paws cool?

If it's 100 degrees out, it's going to be hot no matter what, and theyre not really going to keep your dogs paws "cool," when there is no cool air to be found. The material is tightly woven mesh fibers to provide ventilation, which is important because dogs sweat through the glands in their paws. These shouldn't be left on for long periods of time, just as your dog shouldn't be put in 100 degree weather for long periods of time. While these are designed to encourage airflow, their main purpose is for protection of the paw pads while actively walking/running, hiking, or engaging in other outdoor activities with your dog, and they should be removed as soon as you are finished, and your dog allowed to rest in a cool area. They should not be left on while your dog is at rest, or thought of as something that will encourage or promote cooling in hot weather.

Q: Would these work for south Texas terrain(up land bird hunting)

Of course these will protect your pup's feet-someone answered "I live in Oregon so I don't know" HUH? I live in San Antonio (because of USAF), texas weather is disgusting (we're from Boston) it gets up to 104 in the summer - these boots may not keep your dog's feet cool (no boot can do that) but they will certainly protect them from burrs, rocks and hot surfaces/ pavements. Birds are beautiful, unless you can't get turkey and chicken at your store, please consider stop hunting them, killing is NOT a sport, signed Sensitive Girl

I am not sure how much more your Goldendoodle will grow. but I would not go smaller than the 3'' size.

I agree with the previous poster. I have two doodles and I had them each stand on a piece of paper, marked the widest part of the paw and then measured. If you happen to live near a store that sells them (rei for example) there are actually also marks for measuring on the side of the box they come in. Just as a general idea, I have a labradoodle and a golden doodle, and they both have size 2.5 inches
