Excellent
My 5-year-old daughter loves this book. Although the book is intended for children slightly older than she is, she follows and is engaged with the story, and she enjoys practicing her reading with most of the easier words in the book. The rhyming and rhythm throughout the book is great (I don't think that it's iambic pentameter, though I haven't actually counted it out). My daughter also liked the pictures drawn by other children in the book. This is still Romeo and Juliet, though, so I had to explain to her what was happening in the book as character after character died, but I'm glad that this book still conveys that part of the story rather than glazing over/significantly altering this piece of literature. Overall, my daughter repeatedly requests to read this book, and that tells me that this book does what I want it to do...keep a young reader interested in reading.

Shakespeare can be fun
i bought this book for my granddaughter to introduce her to Shakespeare. The book was great, read it myself first, the illustrations were first class, hopefully she will take the book into school and the class will perform the play, she did enjoy the book and the pictures, it would be good to learn the plays of Shakespeare from a young age and its when introduced as fun its a lot easier to take in.

Great preparation for the play, including for tweens
In my mind, the drawings in this book make it appear suitable for a younger audience than the text does. My daughter is 11 and was put off a bit by the younger initial impression the book gave (although I think the pictures drawn by kids for kids to be adorable). The text, however, does not talk down to older kids at all, and it gives more details than other Shakespeare books for kids. We read through this and then took it with us to the Shakespeare Festival we attended. You could keep it open on your lap and follow through a little in case you got lost, which was great for us. Sometimes I would point to a stop in the book when that moment was being played out on stage. This was a great way for kids to be introduced to Romeo and Juliet, and a great resource. Highly recommend this series!
