NOT hair related!
I read the reviews and saw the comolaints that the book had very little to say on hair and thought come one the title says hair like mine. Well let me tell you- it has nothing to do with hair. It is a good read but i think it was mis-titled. Yes the main character asks about her hair at the start but the mom replies talking about how everyone is different and for the rest of the story that is the focus and not on her hair. Hair is not mentioned until the end when she declares liking her hair. But we are not told what it is about her hair she likes or why she likes her hair suddenly. Even my 3 year old asked what about her hair?I was looking for a story about black people liking their black hair. Instaedvit alks about toes and freckles. My 3 year old is not asking my why her toes are different ir twlling me she wants fingers like Becky in her class. She is however asking for a ponytail like Becky, asking why her hair isn't straight like Becky's and why it isn't yellow like Becky's . The book missed the mark with the title. It is an easy read with important points but if you are looking for a book about black hair THIS IS NOT IT! LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!

Helpful for mixed or minority kids
My 5yo loved seeing someone who looks like her in a book. She said she already knew that everyone was different and unique, but she seemed happy to see representation and was surprised about twins. Seemed to help her feel better about not looking exactly like me or her dad, a big struggle of hers. Gave this one to her as soon as it came in and am saving the skin like mine book to give her for Christmas.
