Made famous by drummers all over the world, the TTop makes cymbal mounting, playing, and removal really easy. One of the biggest characteristic is that they allow cymbals to resonate when used without a top felt. The cymbal can move naturally and freely on the stand, allowing it to fully vibrate! They work ... but....
OK, there is not much to go wrong with these things ... but the real issue is will they work on your cymbal stand set up ?I sued them on some Pearl flat base cymbal stands and here is what I found. (other brand cymbal stands may or may not have the same issues)1. Only swapping out the standard wing nuts, I found that the nylon protector sleeve kept working it's way up towards the new nut. The nut did keep it from coming off the stand, but the cymbal kept ending up resting on the metal part rod of the stand. I think that problem could be resolved by modifying/lengthening the nylon sleeve.2. Because of the fact the nut doesn't hold the top felt washer down like the original wing nut, the crash cymbals flop back and forth much more when struck, almost bouncing at times. They are MUCH fast than standard wing nuts for set up and tear down. I would say that if you are playing lighter duty gigs, these might work well for you. Or you might pick and choose which stands they work best on. For instance, they'd be fine for a ride cymbal application. I originally planned on using them on all of my regular crash cymbals, but now I plan to first find a solution for the flopping and bouncing issue, but one doesn't defeat the whole quick and easy set up/tear down design ... before I buy more.
